Not certain what you: are asking. If you want to know if medications are indicated then the answer is no provided you can make appropriate life style choices. Perhaps some counseling to help you make these choices would be more beneficial in the long run than medications for your hypertension. I don't recall cigarettes, alcohol and excessive coffee being on the DASH diet. ...Read more

Health studies suggest men drink 1-2 glasses of wine a day. I drink 1.5 (split the difference). Can this habit increase risk of fatty liver?

Not per se: Hi. The amount you drink is good for you (and sure makes for a nice dinner with your partner!). It will not put you at risk for fatty liver in the absence of comorbid conditions like type 2 diabetes, or bad genes. To your good health, cheers! ...Read more

Smoking and BP: In general each cig increase BP for at least 30 min for it would depend on how much you are smoking. The healthiest thing you can do is to stop smoking. Much more effective at preventing heart disease that anything else you can do. The benefits start immediately including reduction in sudden death. ...Read more

Can hookah smoking daily between ages 16-18 stunt teen growth? I'm really frustrated and quit it already.

Can hookah smoking daily between ages 16-18 stunt teen growth? I'm really frustrated and quit it already.

Not sure.: Most males stop growing taller by around age 18. The natural history of nicotine dependence in teens study (funded by canadian cancer society) published in journal annals of epidemiology (17 march 2008) showed that on average, teenage boys who smoked were 2.54 cm shorter than their non-smoking counterparts. I have not reviewed study – so i can’t comment on quality of research. ...Read more

Of course attention has to be paid to the reason that you went on the medication in the first place. This calls for a discussion with the treating doctor ...Read more

Gained 20 pounds in a month and blood pressure and tryglc are high 700 range. Difficulty cutting out alcohol. Tend to use my Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) + than prescri?

Very high risk: Sounds like you're at very high risk for heart disease, stroke, and alcoholism -- and are using Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) addictively too. You have a lot to talk with your physician about, if you will please go see him or her. You may need to work with an addiction medicine doctor also -- results depend on the desire you have for change. ...Read more

Dizzy. Have blood pressure of 86 and 50 bpm. Normal blood test. Eat healthy, exercise but struggle with eating too little. Are these stats safe?

Yes: A well conditioned athlete may have heart rate in 50s. Systolic blood pressure in 80s is fine if you do not have symptoms. What is your BMI? If it is less than 18 you may wish to eat more. Your dizziness may be due to dehydration, if you are not drinking enough water and if you lost weight recently that may contribute to dizziness. ...Read more

Can smoking marijuana and taking paroxetine simultaneously stop your heart, or in any way effect your heart? Read some study...

MJ increases Paxil (paroxetine): My understanding is it would be unlikely for combination of Paxil (paroxetine) ; marijuana to cause a normal heart to stop, but rapid heart rate (occasional effect of paxil) might be more likely due to marijuana inhibition of the liver enzyme that metabolizes paxil, thus causing an increased level of Paxil and a concomitant increase in all effects from paxil. Would discuss with Paxil prescriber. ...Read more

Sometimes :-): No human can possibly know what others intend or are doing, unless the person tells it. Or, sometimes they may be seen by others who report it. I'm thinking you mean "self-medicate" rather than "self-meditate." I really hope my patients are meditating -- and they're welcome to do it without telling me. :-) It's very sad when they're uninvested enough in their health to swap meds. ...Read more

I am experiencing high blood pressure (hypertension), auditory hallucination, red or bloodshot eyes, heart murmur, difficulty thinking and balance...I'm a meth addict, daily for 2 years, .5+ grams. Will these symptoms be reversible if I quit?

Meth: continuing w/meth will only make things worse. You have good change to reverse many of your symptoms when you stop. Your symptoms are like a sneeze when you have a cold, not the underlying issue, which is meth. Please do get health ASAP. Start w/seeing your doctor for safety sake and referrals. Can a person safely drink 1-2 alcoholic beverages on a special occasion while on 5mg of lexapro (escitalopram)? Getting conflicting info, are there liver issues?

Can a person safely drink 1-2 alcoholic beverages on a special occasion while on 5mg of lexapro (escitalopram)? Getting conflicting info, are there liver issues?

I wouldn't: If i were the person concerned, i wouldn't drink while taking Lexapro (escitalopram) or any other psychotropic medication. If your liver is impaired, metabolism of both Lexapro (escitalopram) and alcohol will be impaired also. Some may be able to tolerate the increased sedation, etc, but i'm not willing to okay something i wouldn't want to do myself. ...Read more
