ETD: Eustachian tube dysfunction the natural pressure equalizing tubes in your ear are failing during descent. You can try to pop ears with gum and blowing out. Check with your primary doctor to see if you could be okay taking afrin prior to take off/landing which will help open your nose and also your ear tubes. Not from the tubes: Very unlikely the ear pain you are getting has anything to do with the tubes you had as a child. Most like cause is strain of the tempromandibulr joint(tmj). Try motrin, soft diet for a week and don't chew gum, ice, etc. Try to chew opposite the side that hurts. If this doesn't work, see your physician. ...Read more

Any hearing loss: The first question i ask a patient with ear ache (otalgia) is if there is any hearing loss associated with pain. If there is no hearing loss and particularly if the pain is in front of the ear, i would be thinking tmd.
