Adult Adhd Self Help
Adult ADHD: Diagnosing ADHD in adults for the first time requires a careful history and evaluation to document onset in childhood. If childhood onset not clear, other causes for symptoms must be ruled out. Neuropsychologcal testing may be useful to clarify cognitive issues. Medications may be stimulants or non-stimulants. In addition, behavioral and coping strategies are often effective. I hope this helps. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity begins in childhood and may continue through adulthood. Symptoms are similar: poor attention span, impulsivity and hyperactivity which is disruptive to others. Adults who present for a diagnosis must meet criteria for ADD in childhood which a careful history will support. Medical causes for symptoms ...Read more
Dear sirs and madam,
will you please, please help me. I don't know who else to turn to.
I have adult adhd, and being subject to?
To what exactly?: You seem very frantic (typing with all caps), and if you really need help then there's lots of help available out there. Have you discussed with your dr? If you don't have one, that's probably the best place to start. Adhd isn't usually debilitating so i wonder if there is something else which could diagnosed and treated. We cannot diagnose or treat here. For that, you need a physical examination. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

DX adult ADHD, later in life.Help! Can't take meds due to heart cond.. Disorganized, distracted, all over the map. Any suggestions besides exercise?
Later in life?: "Adult" ADHD means it begins in childhood but persists into adult life. I am assuming that in your case "late in life" means after the age of 40? I would be highly skeptical of an initial Dx of ADHD in your age group. I would be much more concerned about thyroid hormone levels, autoimmune conditions, drug interaction effects, dementing syndromes e.g. Alzheimer's, vascular disease, etc. ...Read more

Would pristiq and strattera be an effective combo for major depressive disorder and adult adhd? Stimulants have helped but too many side effects.
Pristiq Strattera: Depression can cause long term fatigue, lack of energy at times difficult to improve till a stimulant is added. Strattera is a weak stimulant but can help improve energy, if not Ritalin or Adderall can be added, if the patient does not have a cardiac problem. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Is it possible to be diagnosed with p.T.S.D and adult adhd? Even though I have never been diagnosed with adhd?
YES, and...: Agree w/drs. Fowler & zimmerman. Just adding: sometimes adhd is missed in childhood b/c the person works hard to compensate for/hide symptoms. Onset of another illness (eg ptsd, depression, etc.) on top of baseline adhd then makes it even harder to compensate for pre-existing adhd, so the 2nd disorder comes w/its own symptoms, while also unmasking the hidden adhd & both diagnoses become apparent. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
