What is the difference, both in symptoms and treatment , between addisons disease and adrenal insufficiency ?

What is the difference, both in symptoms and treatment , between addisons disease and adrenal insufficiency ?

Same thing: Addison's disease is the name given to adrenal insufficiency, a condition recognized by traditional medicine. Adrenal exhaustion & adrenal fatigue are terms coined by anti-aging to describe a lesser degree of insufficiency. Consider addison's disease or adrenal insufficiency as a failing grade or f. Adrenal exhaustion & adrenal fatigue would then be suboptimal c or d grade but still normal.

What is addison's disease and is something you can get or born with? I am experiencing major symptoms of adrenal fatigue.

What is addison's disease and is something you can get or born with? I am experiencing major symptoms of adrenal fatigue.

Addison Disease: Is an endocrine disease where adrenal glands do not produce sufficient steroid hormones, leading to abdominal pain, weakness, low blood pressure, fever, muscle weakness, fatigue, mood changes, GI symptoms, & cravings for salt. Cause can be poor development of adrenal glands, impaired steroid production, or destruction of adrenal glands such as by infection or autoimmune disease.

What are the symptoms of adrenal gland disorder?

What are the symptoms of adrenal gland disorder?

Adrenal: The adrenal comprises 2 major parts - one that mediates " adrenalin" or catecholamines and the other that controls cortisone release, androgens, and a salt- retentive hormone called aldosterone. Depending on which part is affected symptoms differ.

Please tell me what is adrenal disease and what causes these?

BIG question!: Too much cortisol or too much aldosterone, too little aldosterone and/or cortisol, too much catecholamine, androgens, and/or cancers. Holy cow! Big question! Cushing's, primary hyperaldosteronism, secondary hyperaldosteronism, Addison's, secondary adrenal insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (classical & non-classical), pheochromocytoma, various malignancies, hemorrhage/infarct. Big topic

What is the common treatment for adrenal disease?

What is the common treatment for adrenal disease?

Depends on which one: There are different adrenal diseases which include blocks in enzymatic pathways going from one hormone to another in the adrenal cortex; destruction of the cortex; tumors of the cortex, tumors of the adrenal medulla, etc. Depending on which disorder you are referring to, treatment is different.

Are the adrenal glands weak or destroyed having addison's disease?

Are the adrenal glands weak or destroyed having addison's disease?

Addison's disease: Chronic adrenal insufficiency, hypocortisolism, and hypoadrenalism) is a rare endocrine disease. The adrenal glands do not produce sufficient steroid hormones (glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids). It may produce relatively nonspecific symptoms, such as abdominal pain and weakness, and generally diagnosed by lab tests and imaging studies.

What are some diseases caused by adrenal glands?

A lot: There are a lot of diseases and syndromes. You have to differentiate between primary and secondary causes of adrenal diseases.

How does continuous anxiety affect a person with primary addison's disease and zero adrenal function?

How does continuous anxiety affect a person with primary addison's disease and zero adrenal function?

Worry: Anyone with generalized anxiety is likely to have a heightened sense of apprehension and worry (even to the point of paranoia), which is likely to become more apparent when faced with a medical problem. Simply getting a new medical diagnosis will probably worsen the anxiety. There is no direct connection between addison's disease and anxiety.

What is primary adrenal insufficiency (addisons disease)?

What is primary adrenal insufficiency (addisons disease)?

Adrenal cortex: The adrenal cortex makes lots of hormones. Very important are cortisol and aldosterone which help maintain life and salt balance. Addison's disease is caused by adrenal cortex damage rendering it unable to make these hormones anymore, mostly autoimmune cause in us. Patients often have a bronzed look. Hydrocortisone replacement is a lifesaving necessity. Fludrocortisone may also become necessary.

What sort of disease is congenital adrenal hyperplasia?

What sort of disease is congenital adrenal hyperplasia?

Missing enzyme: There are different types. They all involve a deficiency of an enzyme needed in cortisol production. Since the pituitary senses there isn't enough cortisol, it keeps trying to make the adrenals make cortisol. But because that enzyme is missing, the building blocks of cortisol build up. These substances get turned into androgens - male hormones - and cause abnormalities in sexual development.

Is adrenal insufficiency the same as addison's disease?

Not exactly: Addison' s disease is a state of adrenal insufficiency but not vice versa as there are many other causes besides ad ( an autoimmune disease) that can lead to cortisol deficiency state such as tuberculosis of the adrenals, hemorrhage of the adrenals, certain genetic storage syndromes and hypopituitarism.

Is primary adrenal insufficiency the same as addison's disease?

Is primary adrenal insufficiency the same as addison's disease?

Often, yes: Addison's disease is an autoimmune disease which harms the cortex of the adrenal glands. However, anything that damages the adrenal cortex can also cause primary adrenal insufficiency.

18
Is it true that addisons disease and adrenal insufficiency are the same?

Addison: Addison disease is the decreased function of the adrenal gland with decreased level of aldosterone.

What is the difference between addison's disease and primary adrenal insufficiency ?

What is the difference between addison's disease and primary adrenal insufficiency ?

Can be the same: Addison's disease is primary adrenal insufficiency and implies that the immune system is attacking the part of the adrenal gland which makes cortisol. Primary adrenal insufficiency doesn't have to be autoimmune, however. Secondary adrenal insufficiency is when the pituitary gland doesn't make enough acth, a hormone which signals the adrenal gland to make cortisol.

What is the difference between addison's disease & just having adrenal insufficiency?

Usually same: Addison’s disease (also chronic adrenal insufficiency) is a rare, chronic endocrine disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce sufficient steroid hormones (glucocorticoids and often mineralocorticoids). With a number of relatively nonspecific symptoms, such as abdominal pain and weakness, but under certain circumstances, can be life-threatening.Addison's disease occurs in all age groups.
