Adhd And Focalin
Highly: Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is the active half of methylphenidate (ritalin), so it is twice as potent as the latter. But it still is a stimulant, with same side effects and benefits. With well-diagnosed individuals with adhd, it should be effective and tolerated about 65% of the time (as are all stimulants). It lasts 10-12 hours with a single morning dose. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

8 yr old with ADHD on focalin (dexmethylphenidate) 20mg & intuniv & melatonin, gets out of control when given anything with sugar. What can I do to help when med wears off?
Is there any online pharmacy that has ADHD drugs, especially focalin (dexmethylphenidate) xr, that can deliver to kuwait ?
Careful...: I do not know the answer to your question, but be very careful with controlled substances in the middle east. In some countries there, commonly used medications in the west are forbidden by law and violations can carry extremely severe penalties... ...Read more
I have 3 boys that are ADHD. The two younger boys, just start taking focalin (dexmethylphenidate) 10mg & 1 mg Intuniv. One of the boys, has already got in trouble since us?
Not a cure all: ADHD is tough to treat both as a physician and as a parent. The medicine helps with concentration- mostly to learn at school and to complete chores/homework. However, this medicine does not stop behaviors like acting out, talking back or generally getting in trouble. Hang in there- the medicines take a few days to kick in and if there are not any improvements in grades then revisit the diagnosis http://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/childhood-adhd/features/adhd-child-discipline ...Read more

Many ways: There are many ways to increase focus. Brain training games like on Lumosity or other sites can help. Learning meditation is also effective. Some patients have great success with biofeedback for neurofeedback. Some patients can actually come off medications after neurofeedback treatments. Good luck to you. ...Read more
My 8 yr old son is on Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) for ADHD, complains of heart punches off and on. Ped. EKG came back probable for Right vent. Hypertrophy, what, why?
Not unusual: RVH is a common read by EKG machines that are set to do mainly adults and are reading a pediatric EKG. So before jumping to conclusions, make sure EKG was actually read by a pediatric cardiologist. Palpitations you are describing can a side effect of stimulant ADHD meds. Your child should probably have a Holter monitor to follow heart rate over 24 hours or longer to accurately check heart rate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My son w/ADHD can't tolerate Vyvanse or Concerta (irritability/rages) or Clonidine (extreme fatigue). What to try next? Straterra? Intuiv? Focalin (dexmethylphenidate)?
Testing for meds: A small percentage of patients with ADHD will be non-stimulant responders but I question the diagnosis when I see an atypical response to stimulants. Ask your MD about a MilleniumPGT saliva test to evaluate your child's genetic responses to a variety of psych meds to help narrow down the next choice. http://www.chadd.org/Understanding-ADHD/Parents-Caregivers-of-Children-with-ADHD/Evaluation-and-Treatment/ADHD-Medications-An-Overview.aspx ...Read more
The difference: Adderall contains 75% of the effective (dextro) isomers of amphetamine, while Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is dextro-methylphenidate (only the right-handed, or active molecule of adderall). Adderall is a mixture of amphetamine salts, 3-1 effective to non-effective levo (or left-handed molecules). Dextroamphetamine contains only the effective stereoisomer of amphetamine, and has fewer side effects. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
