When will you use lidocaine versus adenosine?

When will you use lidocaine versus adenosine?

Cardiac arrhythmias?: I assume you're asking about cardiac arrhythmias? Lidocaine affects ventricular ectopy and has no effect on av conduction. It's was used for ventricular tachycardia and has largely been supplanted by amiodarone. Adenosine has no effect on the ventricles. It blocks av conduction. It's used to terminate supraventricular tachycardias. ...Read more

What are side effects of a cannula during a myocardial perfusion scan using adenosine?

What are side effects of a cannula during a myocardial perfusion scan using adenosine?

Skin irritation: I assume you are talking about an IV cannula used to administer the tracer and adenosine. The side-effects are the same as they would be for anyone else getting a cannula: bruising and skin irritation being most common. Generally, the IV cannula itself, properly placed, causes no side-effects, and the primary side-effect is bruising from missed attempts trying to get the IV started. ...Read more
