Adenocarcinoma Life Expectancy
Varies: I am sorry to hear about your mother's illness. There is no easy answer on this--i have seen spans of weeks to years. A lot has to do with her pre-illness condition, amount of weight loss, symptoms, time in the hospital. I try in my own practice to emphasize "quality of life" as more important than "quantity of life." i have seen people do better than expected; maintain realistic hope. ...Read more
My mum 67 was diagnosed with metastatic caecal adenocarcinoma, aggressive, stage 4. She started folfox. Can it be cured? Life expectancy?
Serious diagnosis: Stage 4 colon cancer has a very poor prognosis. No one can give you a life expectancy that is exact. It depends upon her response to the treatment. Some people respond very well. Of all people that have this diagnosis only about 8% of them are still alive at 5 years. But still she could be one of that 8%. I hope she responds well to the treatments. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hard to say: Predicting how long someone will live with stage IV lung cancer is always difficult. You said that your disease had progressed. I assume that is on a pet/ct scan. It would depend on how much it's progressed. Unfortunately it may be as little as 8 mos. Or less. It depends on any underlying conditions conditions such as copd. I would strongly advise you to discuss this with your oncologist. ...Read more
My father in law is refusing any kind of treatment for his stage 3a adenocarcinoma . he continues to smoke. what is his life expectancy if he continue?
Much shorter: but his chances for survival with this cancer, particularly with refusing any treatment, is already low. Hard to say that it will be much lower with continued smoking. While I would not stop efforts to convince him that he is better off without it, he may feel that there is little chance of survival anyway, and that he may as well smoke. However, new therapies CAN prolong life significantly. ...Read more
