Can there be addiction support groups for chronic pain patients?

Can there be addiction support groups for chronic pain patients?

Depends: There seems to be a confusion in your mind about physical dependence and addiction. Addiction is psychological dependence on the substance not for controlling the pain but feeling good. Pain is not the issue in such cases and usually illegal means employed to obtain the substance. For such persons there are detox clinics followed by support group. If you obtain opioids for pain, no need for group.

What causes addiction?

"Liking": Liking something whether it be a substance or activity to the point where there is a preoccupation resulting in harm. Probably has to do with Dopamine in the brain which some people get more of a boost from than others. This is heavily genetically influenced. Some substances have such a profound effect that they tend to be more "addictive" than others-like smoked methamphetamine or nicotine.

How can I stop addiction?

How can I stop addiction?

Recovery program: For any addiction, you need help from your physician, often also an addiction medicine doctor, and a support group that works with the substance or behavior you're using addictively. If the addiction medicine doctor is not a psychiatrist, you also need a psychiatric evaluation so that any conditions complicating your recovery can be treated. Bottom line: don't do it alone, and you don't have to!

How do I cure tv addiction?

Let's treat cause: An evaluation by a well trained psychiatrist should clarify the depth, strength, causative factor (s) involved. An addiction similar to opiates or ''speed'' is unlikely. I suspect anxiety of a general to specific nature or a difficulty related to depression or compulsive behavior is more likely. All these are easier to treat than chemical addictions.

How do drug addictions start?

How do drug addictions start?

Drug addiction: Starts by using a drug that briefly gives you pleasure or relieves distress. The most addicting drugs produce tolerance -- more drug is needed to get the same effect -- & cause withdrawal reactions -- you feel terrible as the drug leaves your body. Addictions are misguided attempts to feel good. They are temporary & can cause more problems than they solve, including permanent brain damage.

What causes addictions to pain?

What causes addictions to pain?

No simple answer: Sometimes people inflict physical pain on themselves to avoid feeling emotional pain. Sometimes pain has been associated with sex & therefore becomes associated with pleasurable sensations. Sometimes people inflict pain on themselves out of guilt and the punishment feels good (or at least better than the guilt). It is possible that pain releases dopamine, which often mediates other addictions.
