I am taking lexapro, topamax, buspar, Xanax, adderall xr, and lunesta (eszopiclone) do you think my doctor has me on to many medications?
Review with doctor: Agree with comments made by others re drug interactions and need to justify each med. Meantime, write down each med/dose/when started/possible side effects and review each one with prescribing doctor. Good to question if too many meds. Write down when you felt your best and worst since on these meds. Tell doctor you'd like to cut back meds and how to do that. Can do same if you want a 2nd opinion. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Oringinally on Adderall 5mg, not strong enough. Switched to Adderall 10mg bid, now to Adderall XR 10mg bid. How will this effect me? What dif will i c
Smoother Effect: Short-acting stimulants have a rapid on/off effect. At their peaks they can be too powerful and are prone to wearing off before you remember to take the next dose. These surges and falls can be both exciting and anxiety producing. Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) xr has sprinkles which act like well-timed doses that pick up where the last left off. They are designed to better fit with your day - once daily (not bid). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Newly on Adderall XR 30, 20-days now. No problem with appetite suppression until a few days ago. Why so long for symptom to manifest?

A big difference!: Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is the active half or methylphenidate (ritalin). Adderall is a mix of amphetamine salts and of amphetamine isomers. Both can be highly beneficial for treating adhd, but they are different chemicals altogether and may work through slightly different mechanisms. If one doesn't work or has too many side effects, the other may prove better--and it doesn't matter which you try first. ...Read more

For over 5 yrs i was prescribed both Adderall XR 30mg and Xanax (alprazolam) 1mg by fam dr. Now seeing diff dr and he said these 2 meds no good together?
True: Everyone is different, but generally these medications work at cross purposes, as Adderal is a stimulant and xanax (alprazolam) is a sedative. The concern is that neither will work as well as it should, and you will have more side effects than with either alone. It is hard to switch tracks after 5 years but I would give your new doctor a chance ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Been on Adderall XR 30mg for 4 days now. Is there an adjustment period for this rx? feel nervous / anxious 1st hour, then things normalize. Normal? What would be considered abnormal symptoms?
Dose may be too high: Adderall like other stimulants can cause anxiety. The dose may be a little high for you. Please report your symptoms to the treating provider so you can discuss possible options like lowering the dose. Also, make sure you have your BP and pulse checked regularly at least every few months while taking the med. ...Read more
Is it ok to take 0.25mg Xanax to temper occasional anxiousness due to newly prescribed Adderall XR 30mg?
Best not: An initial dose of 30mg Adderal would be expected to cause some anxiousness. Best talk to your provider about possibly a lower dose. Xanax does not interact with Adderal in a bad way, it's just best to address the root of the problem. If you find you need 30mg, the side effects are likely to diminish with time. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is it dangerous to take Adderall XR 20mg standard dose everyday or Modafinil 200mg ? If I respect the dosage do I risk anything ?
Not necessarily: There are risks and benefits to any medication. Adderall XR is a stimulant that has a high risk of dependency/addiction. Most people who are prescribed Adderall, whoever, do not become addicted (and 20 mg daily is not a particularly high dose). Modafinil has much less addiction potential (if any at all) and is generally considered safe and well-tolerated. ...Read more

I am taking Adderall XR for a month now from 10 mg and increasing to 30 mg. However I have been having too many side effects, will ritalin (methylphenidate) la help?
Possibly: It depends on what side effects you are noticing. The stimulant medications are very similar and there are some effects you can see in all, such as decreased appetite. There are genetic differences in the way individuals respond to meds, even if similar, and sometimes it takes a few tries to find the one that works the best for you. ...Read more
