Can an acupuncturist diagnose any condition?

Not all conditions: Some acupuncturists are western trained physicians, some are doctors of traditional chinese medicine, some do not have medical degrees. Some acupuncturists can diagnose a wide breath of conditions. Many however provide traditional medicine diagnoses which is much different from western approaches to medicine. I don't know of any physician or healer who can diagnosis any and all conditions.

Do acupuncturists really work, or is it just psychological?

Yes - it works: Many (but not all) of the mechanisms of acupuncture are understood now. I have had people see me to disprove that aupuncture works- and they were quite suprised that it worked very well. It has been tested against sham needle insertions to see if it was psychological - the sham insertions were not effective but the acupuncture point insertions were.

I know those needles acupuncturists use are super thin, but still, how much do you feel it when they put it in?

Often don't feel: Yes, the needles are uber thin. My patients usually don't feel the needle insertions. Using the "push finger" technique can prevent feeling the insertion. There are a few master point locations that can be uncomfortable but there are usually alternate sites that can be needled.

What's your opinion of acupuncturists, naturopaths?

Mixed feeling: Naturopaths mostly survive by debunking conventional doctors and make money selling unregulated and untested potions of dubious merit. Save your money. Acupuncture has some merit and there are clinical trials documenting the value in certain conditions.
