Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese medicine -- a system of healing that dates back thousands of years. At the core of Chinese medicine is the notion that a type of life force, or energy, known as qi (pronounced "chee") flows through energy pathways (meridians) in the body. Each meridian corresponds to one organ, or group of organs, that governs particular bodily functions. Achieving the proper flow of qi is thought to create health and wellness. Qi maintains the dynamic balance of yin and yang, which are complementary opposites. According to Chinese medicine, everything in nature has both yin and yang. An imbalance of qi (too much, too little, or blocked flow) causes disease. To restore balance to the qi, an acupuncturist inserts needles at points along the meridians. These acupuncture points are places where the energy pathway is close to the ...Read more
For over 24 hrs I've had a very tender area in my neck under jaw. Think it's a deep lymph node but can't feel a lump. Could this be an infection?
May not be: This depends how deep your talking. It could be a lymph node it could be your sub lingual glands, it could be your thyroid with a thyroiditis. These are just a few thoughts and it's best to clarify this with your physician ...Read more
Had a sore throat for a week. At base of throat and muscle in back of neck sore. Tonsil has a red line. skin under tongue feels like it was cut. Bad?
Doctor can check: A doctor should evaluate a throat that has been sore for 1 week. An infection such as a cold should have almost healed up by then. Allergies would cause noticeable mucus drip down the throat. Strep throat can be the cause, and would need antibiotics like amoxicillin or azithromycin. A doctor can look to see what is going on, plus to a test for strep throat. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have a red patch (kinda pimple like and swollen) at the base of my neck by the shoulder. Also, a small lump/bump (which is tender to touch) right where jaw meets the neck. Very small bump. Back of neck is sore too. Thanks. 35yr. Old male.?
I've had a tight throat for a few months also "shotty" nodes in neck and groin. Does this sound like cancer? I'm very stressed.Been to the dr no help
Doubt cancer: Most guys your age have a few palpable nodes in the neck and groin. Cancer (in this case a lymphoma) would be obvious and it's not worth sampling nodes willy-nilly. A tight feeling in the throat is very unlikely to be serious in the absence of obvious anatomic pathology -- "a lump in the throat" often simply reflects the good stress of living the full life of a young adult. ...Read more
I have a few "canker" soars in my mouth, a swollen gland of some sort under my right jawbone and red, streaked tonsils and inner ear pain. I'm assuming strep throat. The only hospital in my area that takes our insurance is full for a month. Help?
I have a large canker sore that is very painful and I also noticed that a tooth nearby has all of a sudden developed a black line at it's base. Ideas?
Two problems: 1. Canker sores are the most common oral lesions. The cause is unknown. These lesions are bumpy and painful. Topical medications OTC applied directly, mouthwashes, and oral medications can relieve pain or inflammation. 2. Black line stains are calculus, decay or a simple stain. Re.: visit your dentist to solve this small problem. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Very small 1cm swollen lymph nodes under arms. Been there for a year or so. Very soft and moveable. No infection. Why is this?
Could be normal: Several lymph nodes are present in your axilla. In thin patients these lymph nodes can be easily felt. The presence of a lymph node is not an abnormality. Should it change in size, become firm and immobile, or if you have other worries about it, see your friendly doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Weird bumps on back of tongueThey form a V, but towards my throat there is many bumps.Throat is sore from drainage.Could this be a STD?picture posted
Probably not: Unable to see your picture, but the "weird bumps" you are seeing on the back of your tongue are most likely the circumvallate papillae that form a v in the back of the tongue. Most people are not aware that they are there because they are so far back, but it is a normal part of your tongue! Sore throat is probably from post nasal drainage & not STD, but if it continues get a throat culture. ...Read more

6 to 8 weeks swollen lump under the side of tongue. A bit hard with two whiteheads and is not healing. 1/2 inch lenght, painful, nonsmoker/drinker?

Other causes include infection (glossitis), benign tumors (neurofibromas), vitamin deficiency, underactive thyroid, infiltrative diseases (eg. Amyloidosis), and certain very rare congenital causes (beckwith-weideman syndrome). ...Read more
