Is a pinched nerve in the neck at C5 C6 a serious condition? Is a pinched nerve like cervical radiculopathy? Please help

Outcome varies: If there is compression of one of the nerve roots it is sometimes equivalent to a "pinched nerve" . This type of physical compression of a nerve root can result in a radiculopathy. The outcome is variable. Sometimes over a period of days - weeks the radiculopathy will spontaneously improve. If you start noticing difficulty in pinching (weakness) of your thumb and index finger then check with MD. ...Read more

Acupuncture (Definition)

Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese medicine -- a system of healing that dates back thousands of years. At the core of Chinese medicine is the notion that a type of life force, or energy, known as qi (pronounced "chee") flows through energy pathways (meridians) in the body. Each meridian corresponds to one organ, or group of organs, that governs particular bodily functions. Achieving the proper flow of qi is thought to create health and wellness. Qi maintains the dynamic balance of yin and yang, which are complementary opposites. According to Chinese medicine, everything in nature has both yin and yang. An imbalance of qi (too much, too little, or blocked flow) causes disease. To restore balance to the qi, an acupuncturist inserts needles at points along the meridians. These acupuncture points are places where the energy pathway is close to the ...Read more

Does accupuncture help buldging disc and pinched nerves in neck?

Does accupuncture help buldging disc and pinched nerves in neck?

Acupuncture will not: Cure a herniated or bulging disc nor will it correct a bony entrapment. However, it can markedly improve pain, range of motion, inflammation & circulation of the surrounding tissues. Most people would not voluntarily have multiple needles stuck into them if there wasn't a benefit. ...Read more

Neuro said i had severe pinched nerves in neck or "cervical radiculopathy" he said this is cause of my very mild swallowing and breathing issues true?

Neuro said i had severe pinched nerves in neck or "cervical radiculopathy" he said this is cause of my very mild swallowing and breathing issues true?

Insufficient data: Does "neuro" mean neurologist or neurosurgeon? Why did you meekly accept the answer but then post here? Ask doc to explain the neuroanatomy: EXACTLY what cervical levels, roots &/or nerves are affected & which ones involve breathing & which swallowing. Ask to review test results (MRI, CT, myelogram or EMG/NCS). Finally, if no treatment is recommended, I suggest seeking another opinion. ...Read more

Is traction or acupuncture best for a pinched nerve in lower back?

Is traction or acupuncture best for a pinched nerve in lower back?

Traction/acupuncture: Great question: the real answer is nobody knows. They have never been compared head-to-head in any sort of controlled trial. They are both treatments that can be beneficial and i would suggest doing both of them. Consider epidurals too. When dealing with a pinched nerve, i think the most important thing is to know if there is nerve damage (an EMG will diagnose). If so, surgery is warrante. ...Read more

Can acupuncture help neck pain?

Yes: Study results vary, but most studies show a modest effect of acupuncture on neck pain. It's very low risk, lower than the risk of taking medications, even over the counter medications such as ibuprofen. Here's a link to a recent study on the effects of acupuncture for chronic neck pain: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pmc/articles/pmc3373337/. ...Read more
