They are handing out child stress kits to parents so they wont abuse their kids. Toys and candy. How (and who) would that help?

Who has the stress?: If the kids are stressed, then a kit with appropriate toys and activities might help them. If the parents are stressed, then giving the kids something to do might help briefly. Do parents have the right to teach their kids bad habits?

Do parents have the right to teach their kids bad habits?

Parenting: That's complicated. Unfortunately, some parents don't even realize they are teaching bad habits, either because of their ignorance, or they don't realize the child is imitating them. It also depends on what you mean by bad habits. Swearing? Telling lies? Hitting? Children will hopefully get some other feedback on these habits; like in school or their peers, and be able to change their behavior. ...Read more

What kinds of healthy food that helps students studying and strengthen their memory and make them more amenable to accommodate their school lessons?

I'd love to know: Hard to say, but the mediterranean diet seems healthy and protects against many eventual problems, such as heart disease and stroke. Would avoid junk foods, sugars, candy, soft drinks of any kind, but maybe increase lean protein, and encourage exercise and avoidance of smoking, alcohol, and recreational drugs. ...Read more

How do you calm school kids in lockdown?

How do you calm school kids in lockdown?

Some ideas: Staying calm yourself probably will help them. The unknown can provoke anxiety, so depending upon their age you may want to explain the situation, and the steps being taken to address the situation. Don't just describe the problem, also describe the solution. Again, depending upon their age, information given in a realistic, honest, yet hopeful manner may help them stay calm. ...Read more

If you had to teach human sexuality to children or adolescents in homeschool, what are some things thing ok if religious?

Be realIstic: A religious ovum is fertilized just as easily as an atheist ovum. A religious body is just as susceptible to STDs as an atheist body. Ignorance caused tremendous suffering in earlier times. We're blessed with modern knowledge that gives us much more control over them. If your kids don't learn it from you, who will teach it to them properly? Knowledge is power. We owe it to them to give it to them. ...Read more

My 2yr old is in a small family daycare we love,. His language &social skills are advanced. Does he need preschool or can we wait until pre-k?

Need? No...: It sounds like your son is in a loving environment. Children his age (and older) learn through play and connection. He doesn't "need" preschool. Read to him, talk to him, explain things to him, and most of all have fun! I bet he is already getting those things at the family daycare. My vote - if you are happy where he is there is no need to change. ...Read more

Hi,
can brain training web games (eg lumosity.Com) be harmful to kids above 3 years? Kids seem to love playing it - but is there any side-effect?

Above three?: Do you mean above or below the age of three? Recent studies suggest that children under the age of two, really do not benefit from any video electronics. They can be too overstimulating. All children's tv programming should be limited to no more than one hour per day. I do not believe in having a tv in a child's room. You are not doing your kids a favor by exposing them too early to media. ...Read more
