Docs. working for insurance a threat to children health. A doctor refuse referral my child for speech disorder, unless involve school. l don't agree?

Speech therapy: Honestly, I don't like the schools involved in the beginning for certain things, but sometimes it is not the doctor's fault. The insurance company has restrictions on what they consider to be medical reasons for speech therapy. We refer the patient and then when the insurance company won't pay, we get blamed! The school is responsible without a medical reason. There are many sides to every dilemma. ...Read more

Will signing up my child for martial arts lessons give him more discipline?

Will signing up my child for martial arts lessons give him more discipline?

Absolutely!: I'm glad you posted this question...Having studied martial arts myself and having enrolled my son in the study as well. 'studying' imparts not only self-discipline but confidence and self esteem as well; and can be great in potentially dealing with "bullies". The only warning would be the demeanor of the sensei(or teacher); your child needs to 'fit' with him/her so meet with first and decide. ...Read more

Would it be more beneficial to continue mainstreaming my 8 year old child diagnosed w hfa w adhd, gdd/asperger vs placing her in a special ED school?

Ask school: The best think for your child is for you to team up with his teachers and school to get their opinion as to how he is doing. The school district is required by law to evaluate him to see if he needs special help if he has a confirmed medical diagnosis that may get in the way of his education. Sometimes you have to push the school to do it but collaborating is always best. Ask if he needs an iep. ...Read more

My 12 yr. Old son falls asleep doing schoolwork, homework, and chores; but is alert when watching t.V. Or playing video games, is this adhd?

Maybe: Tv and video games are geared for a 4 second attention span. Most 2 year olds have longer attention spans than that. The 4 second attention span keeps your son alert via a neural reflex. It also lowers his attention span for the real world. Research states of those who watch 1 hour a day 9% will lower their attention span to add levels. 2 hours lowers 18% and 3 hrs 27%. Limit both to 45 min/day. ...Read more

What is the best possible way for a college student to juggle school, work, extracurricular act., volunteering, and social/family life all in one?

Take it from Clint: One of Clint Eastwood's great lines is from the 1970's movie Magnum Force. At the end of the movie, just after his character Dirty Harry has taken out the last bad guy, he says, "A man's got to know his limitations." This applies to women as well. Also, be sure to plan well ahead, use a calendar all the time, and keep a buffer of time in case something takes longer than expected. ...Read more
