It depends: There are so many factors that may affect the decision. It depends on the health of the grandparents. If it happens, looking to get support from others in the family is very important. The age of the children may also be a factor. This is a long-term commitment. Many times the grandparents can be stressed. Kids are kids: It's always important to remember that kids are going to be kids, church or no. As a pediatrician, i very definitely know that church going kids are only a little bit less likely to engage in inappropriate behavior and sexual activity. There should always be proper adult supervision and monitoring of behavior on outings. You don't need to have "room for the holy ghost" but look for normal behavior. ...Read more
Do live-in mental institutions help children who are mental retarded more than living at home and going to public school?
Nearly all gone: Separate institutions for mentally retarded (or seriously mentally ill) individuals have nearly vanished in the U.S. Those with mr have quite different needs, depending on the severity of delay. People with mild delays live at home as children and may live indpendently as adults. Adults with severe mr typically live in group homes. Life quality depends on quality of services, not location. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Certainly no help: Whether or not this constitutes mental abuse is probably a matter of degree and definition. The obvious question is why this conversation was begun in the presence of the children, and how it degenerated into an argument. Neither party appears to be acting like thoughtful adults, and the children will certainly not benefit from observing and then potentially copying this behavior. ...Read more
Yes: Well, it depends on the age of the child and whether they were close to the grandparent. If they didn't really know them, or are very young (too young to really understand) then no. However, children are oddly very accepting of life rituals, and they help the child come to grips with major life changes and move on. Be ready for a lot of questions though, and be honest. ...Read more
Whenever they can!: PE time has been eroded from many public schools and it's a real shame! Being physically active and engaging in creative play is beneficial to a child.
