Cortisone is a naturally produced hormone in the body, produced by the adrenal glands. It is often used as a potent medication for inflammatory disease. Hydrocortisone is a topical skin variety and much ...Read more
Is it possible that hydrocortisone (15mg) could be swapped for fludrocortisone in terms of steroids? Or are they too different?
What's your experience with locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) ointment? How does it compare to other steroid creams?
Mid to low potency: Locoid (hydrocortisone butyrate) is a medium to low potency topical steroid. It is appropriate for mild inflammatory skin conditions like eczema. There are many other steroids in this class. The benefit is that there is very low risk of side effects with Locoid and the other class v (5) medium/low potency topical steriods. You can use them safely in more sensitive skin areas.
Is there an alternative to 15mg hydrocortisone or is it the least potent steroid? Long term abx not clearing staph in bladder, dr wants me off hydro

How much time can I use hydrocortisone 1 % cream for anal fissure? Do I have to take breaks because it is a steroid cream?
Hydrocortisone: The main reason is to decrease irritation till the fissure heals. Long term use over time will thin the skin and mucus membrane. So use it as long as it feels itchy and irritating. When these symptoms dissipated then stop using.
Hi does seretitide cause weight gain. I heard it causes large amounts due to the cortizone (hydrocortisone) and steroids in it ?
Which is the better steroid replacement, prednidone or cortef (hydrocortisone)? For secondary adrenal insufficiency.
I like Cortef (hydrocortisone) best: For adults it's a personal preference, but Hydrocortisone (cortef (hydrocortisone)) gives more physiologic steroid hormone replacement. Doses much easier to adjust, though trade-off is taking 3 times/day because 1/2 life is shorter than prednisone. Prednisone is much stronger than Hydrocortisone so it's easier to get cushingoid taking it, especially because dose can't be manipulated as finely as with cortef (hydrocortisone).See 1 more doctor answer

Will deca or steroids that retain water help with tennis elbow? Cortizone (hydrocortisone) helped short term but is returning and effecting training again
Therapy is best: Steroid injections bring improvement 50% of the time at 6 weeks, but usually symptoms return. Subsequent injections buy less time and degree of relief. At 9 months and 1 year patient with therapy have been shown to fair the best, those with benign neglect the next best, and with steroids in third place. 90% of patients have resolution by 12 month. 10% require surgery.See 1 more doctor answer
Can using too much cortizone (hydrocortisone) 10 cream OTC cause similar side effects as using systematic steroids... Excessive hunger, urination & weight gain?
Unlikely: It is very unlikely that one could absorb enough cortisone with over-the-counter cortisone creams to cause any significant systemic effects. However this can occur with much more potent prescription steroid creams.
I am currently on hydrocortisone & fludrocortisone for addisons disease. When the dr runs a blood test for Adrenocorticotropic Hormone level & it comes back normal is that because I am on oral steroids?
Yes: The pituitary gland usually governs how much cortisone should be produced to meet the body's needs via a hormone called ACTH. More ACTH is released to tell the adrenal to produce more when the cortisone level is low and vice versa. When the cortisone level is adequate , the body would produce only the normal amount of ACTH.
