Elimite (permethrin): Hello Vaidehibi. If you are taking Elimite (permethrin) for scabies, it starts to work with that one time application but may require a second application one week later. Also, it can take 2-3 weeks for the bumps and itching to resolve. Over the counter anti-itch creams used as directed can help in the mean time. Difficult question: Permethrin is only minimally absorbed into the bloodstream (less than 2%) after topical application, but it is a VERY stable compound with a long half life.
