Everything takes tim: I have seen light therapy be very helpful. Blue light traditionally has reported to be helpfull but perhaps red is showing better results...I personally like yellow...Getting the benefits of blue and red spectrum. Maybe: There's talk of some wavelengths helping kill the bacteria. This is no substitute for the therapy that actually works for everybody else. Yes: Blue light with aminolevulenic acid can work in some patients. Not sure about how your insurance may pay for it but i feel some patients do well with it. Often i will suggest it for a patient who might need accountant but they either don't want to go that route or cannot go that route. ...Read more
Pain with Acne Light: It depends on whether levulan chemical is used. The chemical will make it more uncomfortable, but probably make the treatment work better. The treatment will also work without the medicine. It creates oxygen in the glands, which is toxic to the bacteria. Poor choice: Phototherapy is at best an adjunct for acne. You deserve better. If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated has not cleared you in two weeks, get with your personal physician who can add prescription-strength therapy.
