Try it out and if it doesn't work (benzoyl peroxide's the best over-the-counter stuff), your physician can add something that will help more; topical clindamycin's often a good addition. Good luck. ...Read more
Individualized: It really depends on what kind of acne you have. I would recommend you have your doctor take a look at it and classify what kind of acne it is which will make it much easier for him/her to advise which medications and products would benefit you the most. Some therapies include topical retinoids or antibiotics, and oral antibiotics among other more intensive therapies if those don't work. ...Read more

Was on spironolactone for acne 1 1/2 weeks. Sleepiness, confusion, nausea intolerable. Stopped taking. How long till out of system & feel normal?
5 x (1/2 life): Spironolactone half-life is 1.5 hours, so that component will be out in 7.5 hours, however, it is metablized to another component that hangs around 16.5 hours, so 5x16.5 = 82.5 hours or 3 days and 10.5 hours. Then it will be out of your system. So, it depends on whether your symptoms are from the parent compound (7.5 hours) or its metabolite (82.5 hours). Good luck and best wishes. ...Read more

Simple hives: Agree. Simple hives can last weeks, months, years. Unfortunately by 3 weeks causes become difficult to know. Often immunologic hives from a virus go for a few weeks. If longer, or if bruises, joint pain, throat swelling, need consult. Check kidney, liver, autoimmune, chronic infection, even for cancer. Need a good sit down w/ allergist, dermatologist to confirm hives and test. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Diagnosed with staph infection, doctor suspects its from overactive colony in my nose that was reacting with small cuts from shaving and from acne in the area. Scared this means my immune system isn't strong. Can healthy people get staph from nose?
Common: This is common in healthy persons. Staphylococci bacteria reside in the nostrils and is spread to different parts of the body. So this is not abnormal. The fact that u have a staph skin infection does not make u have low immunity. Staph can take advantage of any break in the skin to cause an infection. Just keeping wounds clean and dry usually suffices. It may be worrisome only if recurrent. ...Read more
