I've had the same pimple on my face about an inch below my right eye for months. No acne treatment seems to effect it. What is it and what do I do?
Find an old bottle..: ...On the beach, rub it, and hope a genie comes out. In all seriousness, we are doctors, not magicians. A strong oral steroid like Prednisone can be used to temporarily clear your skin in a short period of time, but steroids are powerful drugs and should not be taken for cosmetic reasons unless absolutely necessary. A much wiser plan is to plan further ahead and get on a sensible longterm regimen. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sometimes it cannot be completely avoided if there is a strong family history. I also get great results with chinese medicine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No quick fixes: If two weeks on over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide doesn't clear you, get with your physician. You may be a rx for a topical retinoic acid derivative, the oral contraceptive pill (if you're female), topical clindamycin, a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline, or a dermatology referral for possible isotretinoin. All acne is manageable today; it's not a hygiene or lifestyle problem. We can help. ...Read more

I am breaking out again after a year of being acne free. Is it due to my face hair/beard getting more dense?
Maybe: Congratulations on progressing from a boy to a man. If what you're calling acne is primarily in your beard area, it may be infection (bacterial, yeast) around the new hairs. We'd treat this differently. If it's generalized, most likely it's the hormonal roller-coaster. Acne is easy to treat nowadays and you deserve to have the control you want. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I wear makeup to hide my acne but that causes acne. Any tips? I use something OTC with benzoyl peroxide. I struggle keeping it acne free. Thanks!
See your physician: It's time to move you up to a prescription-strength medicine to supplement the benzoyl peroxide (which was a great start). Your physician can probably clear you with topical clindamycin. Tretinoin or something similar. The oral contraceptive pill (if it's right for you) or spironolactone are also possibilities. Good luck and stay proactive. ...Read more

Scientific Rx: I'm sorry you were misled by the foolish business with the lemon, which is worthless. You're a grown man and need to take charge of your acne. If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated (try 5% 2x/day) hasn't cleared the pimples in 2 weeks, get with your personal physician for prescription-strength rx. The post-inflammatory pigment fades on its on after several weeks, or try hydroquinone sparingly. ...Read more
