Knee injury. MRI report "PCL Avulsion fracture of tibia (6-7mm displacement) with adjacent tibial bone edema. fibers are intact." is surgery needed?

Yes, it should if-: -U expect 2 have a functioning knee 4 the rest of Ur life. It can only separate more, & a simple reduction & fixation will do what U want it 2 do, reunite the fragment 2 the tibia. The image is a tear & requires a major reconstruction if not fixed. Acl Reconstruction (Definition)

Because an acl (anterior cruciate ligament) cannot heal itself on its own, an acl is "reconstructed" by placing a graft tendon substitute (from your own or donor cadaver tendon) placed into tunnels made in the original acl position, and fixed in place with screws, buttons, or other fixation device. The body then replaces the cells and structure of the graft over 6-8 months, ...Read more

How does the hyaline cartilage repair after bone fracture?

How does the hyaline cartilage repair after bone fracture?

No: Hyaline cartilage has a very limited ability to heal. There are hosts of scientists looking at how to enhance its healing potential. However, there are no good ways to do it currently. If a fracture that enters a joint also damaged the hyaline cartilage, the best that can be done is to get the joint fracture repaired as anatomically as possible. ...Read more

Can arthroscopic knee surgery correct fracture of femoral condyle?

Can arthroscopic knee surgery correct fracture of femoral condyle?

Can assist: Certain fracture patterns of the femoral condyle can be assisted by using arthroscopy. It can judge whether out not the fracture is significantly displaced or if there is an associate cartilage damage. Some fractures can be percutaneusly resuced and screws place tohold the fragments in place and not require an open procedure. ...Read more

Microfracture and ACL surgery?

Good options: Acl reconstruction at your age is a good option if you have knee instability. Only a small percentage of patients (copers) do well without surgery. Micro fracture at the same setting to address small cartilage defects is fine, but an oats procedure maybe better, where. Cartilage plugs are harvested from another area of the knee and implanted to the affected area. Check with your surgeon about it. ...Read more

Does screw removal from ankle require a cast? Screws removed from bone

Varies: It does vary in part on surgeons preference and also the nature of the bone and fracture involved. When the screw is removed, there is a hollow bone tunnel left where the screw was that slowly fills in with bone. In some situations, this can act as a stress riser to create a new fracture and that is the usual rationale for protecting some patients with a cast after screw removal. Thank you. ...Read more
