Acl Reconstruction Side Effects
What are the possible side effects of ACL and meniscus reconstruction surgery using a hamstring graft ?
Because an acl (anterior cruciate ligament) cannot heal itself on its own, an acl is "reconstructed" by placing a graft tendon substitute (from your own or donor cadaver tendon) placed into tunnels made in the original acl position, and fixed in place with screws, buttons, or other fixation device. The body then replaces the cells and structure of the graft over 6-8 months, ...Read more
Dietary: One would need to eat smaller & more frequent meals & chew foods very well as the new intestinal connection or internal intestinal pouch will not be able to hold as much food as a normal stomach. Sometimes a person is checked with blood tests for anemia or b vitamin deficiency. ...Read more
Disagree with Rx: First, not clear to me if you possess a VNS device, but removal can increase sz frequency. Furthermore, you are taking too many seizure meds, as after the first two, the benefit of the third is NO MORE than 3-4% improvement at best and the 4th is clearly egregious. You are best served by either surgery or the VNS unit, and you need to see an epilepsy specialist to get some direction here. ...Read more
Disagree with Rx: Why hasn't the stimulator been replaced, as the newer versions have better batteries and are far smaller? Usually cough occurs when VNS settings too aggressively set, not when removed. Removal may result in increased seizures, and maybe your cough is part of a partial seizure. Have you discussed this with your neurologist?? ...Read more
Broad question: There are surgical risks with any procedure - ie. Bleeding, infection, damage to adjacent organs, failure to cure, etc. There are also usually benefits for the majority of procedures performed. In the case of hysterectomy - we expect resolution of whatever problem prompted the surgery. The specific side effects of hysterectomy include - no more periods, no uterine prolapse, fewer cramps, etc. ...Read more
I'm having surgery for maltracking (lateral release medial pattellfemeroral reconstruction and autograft on hamstring) what should I expect?
Bracing & therapy: Bracing is usually warranted after patellar stabilizing surgery. Physical therapy is also important to help regain motion & strength. Your surgeon will have a specific rehabilitation regimen for you to follow for the 6-12 weeks following surgery. The layerl release decreases the tethering affect on the outside of your knee, and the mpfl reconstruction prevents patellar subluxation/dislocation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Avoid complications: The main benefit of removing a diseased gallbladder is avoiding the life threatening complications of pancreatitis and liver obstruction. The potential side effects is increased frequency of bowel movements and very occasionally a patient will develop bile diarrhea. A bile binder, like cholestyramine/questran, can be used to treat. Laprascopic gallbladder removal is a safe, effective procedure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is the recovery time for ACL reconstruction using hamstring, plus MCL repair plus lateral meniscus repair plus impact fracture of tibial plateau?
Difficult to say: You describe a fairly significant knee operation and set of injuries. It's hard to say without examining you and reviewing your studies. Your orthopedic surgeon is in the best position to answer this question. It's safe to say that your recovery will last for several months with a lot of physical therapy. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Indirectly: Most likely you still have quad weakness after your reconstruction. You will still limp with your knee hyperextended when you walk longer periods. You'll have difficulty going down stairs, and you'll have burning down the leg to the calf in the evenings. First, force yourself to stop limping. Second, work diligently on your quads (remember your exercises?) you'll start improving within days! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Apparently not.: Side effects include vaginal bleeding, fluid retention, vision changes, spotty darkening of skin, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, and depression, among others. Fluid retention is important to tell your doctor because it can be hypertension. The most important fact to note is if you smoke and use this, you can have serious cardiovascular side effects. So do not smoke and use this. ...Read more
Yes: Side effects include the scars of the procedure, which you can see on the skin, but also include the underlying subcutaneous tissue and joint capsule, scarring around the fat pad, which lies just behind the patella tendon, some reactive capsulitis, occasional numbness, especially the lateral (outside) of the knee, and then the side effects of whatever is done, which should include less pain. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had an mpfl reconstruction now need ACL hamstring reconstruction are there major risks with the ACL recon due to hypermobility and previous MPFL recon?
On thing is if Ur-: -own tissue is 2 B used, it is of poor quality due 2 Ur general condition of hyper-mobility means Ur tissue will also B effected since it will also become hype-mobile meaning it will stretch. Best option is cadaver bone-tendon-bone allograft. It will not stretch like Ur own will. Also I would B tested 4 Marfan's. There R 3 grades of this malady. 1= people who R short in stature with Ur symptoms. ...Read more
