Possible but unusual: Most likely lower esophageal adenocarcinoma is caused by gerd, which changes the lining of the lower esophagus into that of the stomach (barrett's) which is a precursor for adenocarcinoma. Need for evaluation: It is unlikely that you have esophageal cancer, but you may have ulcerations in your esophagus. Have you quit alcohol and tobacco? How much do you weigh? if you are overweight, that would make reflux worse, It would be prudent for you to consult a GI doctor for esophagitis and advice about nutrition. ...Read more

Reflux NOT Cancer.: If chest pain is worse with movement, with Deep Breathing, with Pressure on the Chest = can be inflammation called CostoChondritis; Rx with Local Heat and Ice application or Anti Inflammatory medicine Ointment. If Heart burn after eating or sour taste associated with Annoying Chest pain could be from Reflux. Try OTC Pepcid (famotidine) or Omeprazole for 2 to 4 weeks.
