Acid reflux: Saline nasal drops and suction for nasal congestion. Nasal congestion may be from the cold or a symptom of acid reflux. Need to see your physician. There are other medications for reflux as well like Prevacid and bethanecol. Some children need a combination of medications to control reflux.

Acid Reflux (Definition)

Technically called GERD, acid reflux is the presence of acidic stomach contents in the esophagus. The acid irritates the esophagus causing heartburn symptoms. The regurgitation or reflux can vary greatly as can the symptoms. Blocking stomach acid with medications can alleviate the burning but medication cannot stop the reflux. What to do if asthma, acid reflux, choking sensation, back pain, no sleep?

What to do if asthma, acid reflux, choking sensation, back pain, no sleep?

See your doctor!: All those problems can be related to uncontrolled gastroesophageal reflux, stomach ulceration and aspiration of acid into the airways. Sleep apnea can be associated with all of these symptoms as well. Treating the underlying cause will make your nights much more restful!

Is choking in my sleep from acid reflux common?

Nocturnal GERD: This phenomenon is not uncommon but can portend severe consequences. You probably need a 24 hr ph study and maybe in association with esophageal manometry. You may need a scope. Please see you primary for a referral.

I sometimes wake up at night choking. Could it be acid reflux?

I sometimes wake up at night choking. Could it be acid reflux?

GERD: Also called gastroesophageal reflux disease. Common symptoms such as heartburn, bloating and sour or bitter-tasting acid backing up into your throat or mouth are the key to the diagnosis of acid reflux disease. The good news is a treatable condition. Rec.: see your pcp for diagnosis and treatment.

What can I do for acid reflux I am on medicine, but got woke up choking from fluids that came up. What I do?

Discuss with DR: If you have reflux to such a degree, it is reasonable for you to discuss your gerd with a surgeon. The medications will generally not stop the refluxing. They should help with the acid/burn component of the disease. All said, lifestyle changes are good not only for gerd, but for over-all health.

See below: This may very well be acid reflux. The other possibility is aspiration, less likely. He should be evaluated.

Is constant choking feeling acid reflux?

Reflux: Gastric reflux can result in the sensation of choking or shortness of breath or the sensation of "heart burn" if it is continuous it may be more severe. Life style changes like stopping smoking, stopping alcohol, stopping caffeine may help. I would suggest seeing your physician, you may need to have an egd - a scope to see what the problem is.

Baby with congestion? Sever acid reflux puking and choking. Help!?

Baby with congestion? Sever acid reflux puking and choking. Help!?

See your doctor: If the baby can't breathe it shouldn't wait and they need to be assessed. It could be they have an allergy to dairy and/or soy and exposure to it in the breastmilk or formula is causing reflux and the acid is burning the throat and nose, causing extra mucous. Saline drops for babies used after each feeding can help. If turning blue or having poor weight gain see a doctor asap.

How high is the risk of choking (on food) while under anesthetics if you have gastroparesis and frequent acid reflux?

Unlnown: The understanding of "nothing by mouth" times has changed in recent years. The length of time being far shorter. However a person with gastro paresis may potentially extend the nothing by mouth times considerably way past eight hours.

I woke up at 5:30 choking from acid reflux I guess. It scared me to death. I was told last year I have Barrett's esophogus. But I never have heartburn?

Silent reflux: This is an established phenomenon. Some people cannot detect heartburn pain for congenital reasons or due to scarring/nerve damage as a result of the reflux. It is time to return to your gastroenterologist for follow up, and probable repeat scope as you are on the higher end of the risk spectrum for esophageal cancer...and you need to address the plan for treating reflux.

Can you tell me a natural alternative to dealing with acid reflux, stomach ulcers and choking on acid?

Can you tell me a natural alternative to dealing with acid reflux, stomach ulcers and choking on acid?

See integrative Dr.: There are several botanical's, ayurvedic, herbal, essential oil, homeopathic supplements that you can use. However, the list is extensive, and it's best if an integrative holistic medical doctor can examine you, in light of your constitution, overall stress and lifestyle to come up with the best treatment plan. Plus, you may need the assistance of a clinical nutritionist too. Slippery elm and marshmallow root come to mind, but see your doctor first, as there may be other things that are more appropriate based on your findings.

Brother at 52 diag. Colon cancer. I'm 47 and have Type 1&2 Bristol chart feces for a very long time. Acid reflux, choking at night on acid chestpain?

Unrelated to Ca: Bristol Classification measures stool shapeand transit time in bowel, unrelated to any malignant pathology developing in the colon. The upper GI symptoms and acid reflux are unrelated to potential for a colonic reoplasm which usually is induced via the polyoma virus entering mucosa and establishing a field effect in which various lesion arise. One should check out bowel pathology via colonoscopy.

Docs, what's a natural alternative to dealing with acid reflux, stomach ulcers and choking on acid?

Weight Loss: Believe it or not, weight loss is very effective at decreasing GERD symptoms. Even losing just 10% of body weight can potentially eliminate symptoms. Elevating the head of your bed at night is useful as well. Herbal remedies that could be tried (not harmful) include licorice, aloe vera juice, baking soda and slippery elm.

I ve had a choking sensation most days the past week with a gravely voice. Dr said my airway is open and my larynx and vocal cordes were not swollen. He thought it was acid reflux so I ve been taking the medication he prescribed, not eating 2 hrs before be

Acid reflux vs drip: Reflux and post-nasal drainage can both cause symptoms like you mention. It can take quite a while for the drainage due to reflux to improve: up to three months in some cases. Mucinex (guaifenesin) can also help the gravelly voice: you can take up to 1200 mg twice a day. It helps by thinning the secretions and making them seem like saliva. We swallow lots of that each day anyway

I have acid reflux and every evening, I get choking feeling in my throat which doesn't go away for few hours. Is there a way to prevent it? Thanks.

GERD to THROAT: To prevent GERD -- eat smaller meals, chew more thoroughly, make posture straighter, get up and walk after eating, sip water during and after eating, eat less meat. AND of course, take acid blocker or acid reducer each evening 30 min before eating, such as omeprazole or Pepcid (famotidine). Both are OTC.

Can excessive belching cause throat damage? Can't gargle, difficulty swallowing at times, choking, neck pain on both sides, acid reflux problems.

Belching: The excessive belching is caused by some underlying condition, such as your reflux disease. The belching itself is more a symptom than the cause you need to get treated. Seek help form a GI dr. Who specializes in this area. Best wishes.

Sleep Apnea: If your child even has 1 episode an hour of sleep apnea treatment is recommended. I would not wait at all, referral to have a sleep study in a children's hospital setting would be my first priority.
