Can fibers like psyllium be helpful in addrsing slow bowel movement problem where food stays in stomach for long time resulting in acid reflux symptms?

Can fibers like psyllium be helpful in addrsing slow bowel movement problem where food stays in stomach for long time resulting in acid reflux symptms?

Fiber: Fiber products like psyllium provide bulk for good bowel movements but, in my opinion, do not promote better gastric emptying in those patients who have gastroparesis or very slow emptying of stomach contents. There are other medications that do such as reglan or erythromycin. A gastroenterologist is best qualified to advise and treat you. ...Read more

Acid reflux sufferer for over 10 years, I use fantodine. Two weeks ago I have issues swallowing, infrequent bowel movements and pain in both armpits?

Maybe not related...: "Transfer dysphagia" is a problem moving the food bolus from your mouth to the top of the esophagus; "transit dysphagia" is a problem transiting the food down the esophagus. Motility studies (modified barium swallow; esophageal manometry) may be helpful in identifying pathology or spasm. GERD of 10 years duration is however a long time--call your GI doctor for checkup & maybe new acid blockers. ...Read more
