I been having pain on my left side of my rib cage, should I worry since I had it all day yesterday, and also right on the bottom of my spine it aches?
Be ready: If you have fever, shortness of breath or weak and lightheaded, you should be evaluated today. If you feel ok other than the pain, and symptoms are not worsening, you could wait and see if it persists for a couple of days, especially if you can identify a well-defined area of tenderness in the chest wall. That would tell you it's probably a musculoskeletal problem. Low back pain may be unrelated. ...Read more

Cannot say in your: Particular case, BUT. It usually is a soreness in the lung/diaphram or upper abdomen. If you KNOW what you did to strain it (blowing up all the balloons for a party, hookah party, too much dancing at a party... various other party-related strains) then, aspirin and no partying. Otherwise examination of the lungs is a good idea. ...Read more
No short answer: Probably muscular strain. You may have twisted wrong or coughed or sneezed hard. Also going to sleep in a chair can cause you to lean over the arm & injure the muscles. Sometimes sleeping on your side on your arm will cause tenderness. The treatment I like best is heat, hot shower, hot bath, or more often heating pad to the area for 15+ minutes 4 times a day when you can. Do not burn yourself. ...Read more

Have slept constantly on right side on a couch for a couple of yrs. Feels like my rib area is always sore and achy. Costochondritis possibly?
Costochondritis: Pain will be mostly found in the front near your sternum where the ribs meet the sternum. The achiness you are probably feeling is more likely related to the spacing between your ribs and either irritated intercostal musculature or irritated intercostal nerves. You would benefit from a physical exam to see if you have any hypertonicity of one side or any mild scoliosis. Try sleeping on other side? ...Read more
Ever since I had pneumonia my ribs right and left sides have been aching on and off it has been 4 months. Notice it with more activity. What is it?
Probably muscular: Or skeletal...it is possible that you fractured some ribs from coughing with pneumonia, and that the nearby muscles are irritated. All that should be healing by now though, unless you are doing some activity that actually stresses those same muscles or ribs. Did you have a followup x-ray to be sure the pneumonia was gone? If not, see your doc and ask about having one, especially if you smoke. ...Read more
