Acetaminophen/hydrocodone 5/500 maximum recommended doses?

Acetaminophen/hydrocodone 5/500 maximum recommended doses?

Ask the doctor: Ask the doctor who gave the prescription. The 500 is the amount of tylenol (acetaminophen) in the tablet. The total daily dose should not be more than 3000mg or 6 tablets. The maximum dose may be less in some people due to liver or kidney problems. Please ask the doctor who gave the medications. Baby weight is 26 pounds, tylenol (acetaminophen) 80 mg q6h prn ordered. How much tylenol (acetaminophen) should be given in one dose?

That means 80mg/dose: A normal baby can take 6.8 mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) (acetominophen) per pound of body weight, in one dose. That means 6.8 mg x 26 pounds = 176.8 mg (but round down to 160 mg for simplicity). Tylenol (acetaminophen) is typically used for just 1-3 days. The baby's doctor may have recommended a smaller dose for some reason, as he knows the baby's details. ...Read more

For11 lb infant, infant tylenol (acetaminophen) (concentration 160 mg/5ml) dose, is the correct dose 60 mg which is 1.8 ml ?

For11 lb infant, infant tylenol (acetaminophen) (concentration 160 mg/5ml) dose, is the correct dose 60 mg which is 1.8 ml ?

That is ok: 60mg is fine for that weight, but it's easier to use 2.0ml (64mg). An 11lb baby can take 75mg per dose, but parents should not use tylenol (acetaminophen) on a young baby unless the doctor already knows about the symptoms and has agreed that tylenol (acetaminophen) should be used. ...Read more

Can you take 75 mg diphenhydramine HCl (tylenol (acetaminophen) simply sleep) with .5 mg diazepam (valium)?

Can you take 75 mg diphenhydramine HCl (tylenol (acetaminophen) simply sleep) with .5 mg diazepam (valium)?

Probably: I think you mean 5 mg of diazepam, not .5. 75 mg of diphenydramine is a bit high. Tegether, they synergize for additional sedation. Alone, it is probably not enough to be a problem, but if combined with other sedating agents or alcohol, you would be taking a risk, possibly a serious one. ...Read more

Is it okay to stagger doses of tylenol/advil for feverish child (5 yrs old)?

Is it okay to stagger doses of tylenol/advil for feverish child (5 yrs old)?

Why ever ???: Fever is a normal body response that increases metabolism, heart rate & breathing to fight infection. It is a sign not the problem. I find it abusive to wake a child for fever meds or constantly be giving something in the false hope that it does something good. Kids need ample fluids, nutrition & rest to recover from an illness. If I choose to medicate I pick the longer acting drug & stick with it ...Read more
