Not Recommended : Both medications can cause pseudotumor cerebri, and when taken together the risk of this is much higher. It is reversible, but i still never prescribe both Accutane and Minocycline (solodyn is a version of minocycline) together. If an antibiotic is needed while on accutane, I use a different antibiotic that is not associated with pseudotumor. ...Read more

Depends: If you are a woman trying to conceive then absolutely not. Otherwise, it does have a significant number of potential adverse effects which need to be monitored. There are other, safer acne medicines but they may not be effective for you. One moment....: Accutane is best reserved for severe / deep / cystic acne, as it's unpleasant and there are some risks. I usually see good results with systemic antibiotics & topical therapy for the milder stuff. However, it's extremely effective, and a long-term remission is the rule. Being a teen / young adult is rough enough without acne, and i believe it's well worth as many courses as you actually need. ...Read more

Yes: Other options include oral antibiotics such as Doxycycline and minocycline. You coule also use Retin-A (tretinoin) which is the topical version of Accutane (isotretinoin). Also the cysts can be injected with a dilute corticosteroid medication called kenalog (triamcinolone).
