Keep going: You neglected to give your weight and you do not mention details of type of acne, other meds, menstrual periods, birth control. You may need 80mg but how ,much do you weigh? Typical person on Accutane clears in 4 or 5 months. You are only 3 months into it. Talk to the Dr who prescribed it!! ...Read more
I took two Accutane pills on february 22 and 23. Each pill is 5 mg. I conceived on may 30. Should I be worried that my baby will have birth defect?
No: The Accutane should be metabolized and out of your system by the time you conceived. Medical guidelines allow for discontinuation of birth control 30 dyas after the last dose at which point the risk is minimal related to accutane. Most of the birth defects associated with Accutane are associated with its use during pregnancy (after implantation of the embryo). There are reports of research studies, however, looking at once a day dosing of 80 mg, and it is possible to get a consistent or "steady state" blood level with once a day. Taking the meds with food reportedly increases its absorption and effectiveness.
