Accuracy Of Fundal Height Measurement
21 weeks: Fundal height is measured from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus. The number in centimeters usually correlates pretty well with the number of weeks of pregnancy. Ultrasound gives a more precise gestational age. Obstetricians measure fundal height regularly to make sure the fetus is growing as expected. ...Read more
What is more accurate? Fundal height measurement or measuring the baby through an ultrasound? I'll be 24w tomorrow and haven't had my belly measured
Baby growth: The fundal height is good for trending over the course of your pregnancy and fh is +/- 2-4 cm = weeks once past 20 weeks. Most doc's will start measuring fh at 20 or 24 week visit. U/s has a 10-15% error of calculating baby weight throughout pregnancy and assigning dates varies with gestational age. ...Read more
Top of the uterus: Fundal height refers to the location of the top of your uterus. This is a quick and easy way to confirm that the uterus is growing normally. We start at the top of the pubic bone and use the tape measure to locate the top of the uterus. After 20 weeks this distance in centimeters roughly equals your gestational age. Ex: 28 CM fundal height = 28 weeks gestation. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
None: An 8 week uterus is usually not popping out of the pelvis yet - if you are thin then it may be palpable above the pubic bone. ...Read more
Fundal height is 4 weeks more than my due date but baby measuring 2 weeks smaller than my due date, what does this mean?
3rd u/s done @ 28w2d, at apt the next day was told growth & fluid were normal but my fundal height measured 33. Dr not concerned, what could this mean?
Probably not much: As long as us looks ok, and all evidence shows baby is healthy and growing, thats good. No test is 100% perfect and there are no 100% guarantees even with 1000s of tests or exams. Ask your doctor next time. Often the weeks gestation and fundal height dont match exactly. Everthing you reported here sounds ok. ...Read more

20 weeks gestation: In clinical practice, recording the actual fundal height measurement from the palpable top of the uterus to the superior edge of the pubic symphysis is standard practice beginning around 20 weeks gestation. Most caregivers will record their patient's fundal height on every prenatal visit. Measuring the fundal height can be an indicator of proper fetal growth and amniotic fluid development. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Should fundal height match gestational age from lmp? I.E. If 28 weeks from lmp, fundal height should be approx 28 cm
Within 3 wks: This is a rough guideline that obstetricians follow after 20wks. A three week discrepancy is acceptable and if greater, should prompt need for ultrasound evaluation. ...Read more
Diagnosed my baby fetal macrsomia. I'm 33wks+5 and fundal height measuring 37 wks. Ultrasound at 2 wks ahead. Have no risk factors. Should I worry?
Macrosomia: Every baby grows at slightly different rates. U/S measurements are "dated" on an average growth rate, so any given time may be larger or smaller than average, but still be normal. Sometimes, the U/S may be correct, but since bleeding can occur with pregnancy, you may just have gotten pregnant a month earlier than you calculated. ...Read more
I am 36 weeks. Ultrasound showed 6lbs1oz. My fundal height is measuring behind at 35 cm. It's been perfect until now. Is this normal when baby drops?
Yes: Ultrasounds and fundal heights can only "guess" at weights and gestational age unless done serially. once the baby drops into the pelvis generally at 36 weeks gestation the fundal heights are "iffy". ...Read more
At 10 weeks i measured 14 weeks in fundal height. My bladder was full at the time, how much would that affect how big my uterus measured?
Fundal height? Im measuring right 18 cms at 18 weeks but i don't understand why the top of my uterus is 2cms above belly button. By charts thats 24week
Not accurate.: Fundal height assessment is "poor man's" ultrasound to assess fetal growth. It is notoriously inaccurate and depends on maternal weight for height, fibroids, amniotic fluid volume, lordosis of the maternal spine and experience of the examining prenatal care provider. I would not read too much into it and rather rely on the ultrasound measurements at any time. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
