I had surgery on my right arm 3 years ago because of cut open veins and today I hit a wall with my fist the knuckle on the middle finger got swollen, ?

Get x-rays: Hitting your fist against a wall is a common way to sustain a fracture of your metatarsal (hand bone). Since it is swollen, it is a good idea to get an x-ray to make sure nothing is broken. The previous surgery 3 years ago likely has no effect on the current injury. ...Read more

See someone: Have either your doctor, an ER or ortho se the hand maybe even X-ray it. There likely is some trauma that occurred, possible so simple you don't recall it. The hand could also be traumatized in sleep . I doubt its a medical condition such as an arthritis but it should be examined for anything such as trauma, sprains even foreign objects. ...Read more

Punched a wall. Pinky seems a lil crooked, and slight swelling in the back of hand area below ring and pinky fingers. Fist can be clenched. Fracture ?

Boxers Fracture: You have likely fractured the head of your 5th metacarpal neck with possible displacement and angulation. Do not use your hand, protect it and visit an Orthopaedic Surgeon in clinic. You need x-rays and splinting until an ortho has a chance to schedule you for a closed reduction of the fracture (putting it back in place) and then percutaneous pinning, casting, or in some cases operative fixation. ...Read more

Hit my index finger playing basketball 10 days ago. I can move the finger freely but my knuckle hurts when i try to clinche my fist.

Needs more time: First, its a good idea to have these injuries assessed by a hand surgeon to be sure there is not a more serious underlying injury. If this is a typical "volar plate" injury at the pip joint (middle knuckle of the finger), then pain can last many weeks but stiffness and swelling can last much longer. Focus on maintaining normal motion and the pain should fade with time provided you protect it. ...Read more
