Accessory Spleen Symptoms
Congential: It's not really "on the kidney" is near the kidney. An accessory spleen can develop at birth and does not usually cause any harm or symptoms. It is usually found from abdominal x-rays like a ct scan, or a surgery on other abdominal organs.
My daughter was diagnosed with accessory spleen at 6 months, but had a normal spleen at 2 months? What can cause this?
Had CT scan w/ contrast in march & it showed no accessory spleen. Had recent scan w/o contrast that now shows an accessory spleen. Which is correct?
No difference: One reader of ct may have overlooked accessory spleen or splenule which can be quite small or did not report it because of lack of importance. The major spleen does most of work for body. Accessory spleen has very minor function. It's only importance if interpreted wrongly as some other mass or if need splenectomy and accessory spleen is left behind. In most cases it is of little importance.See 1 more doctor answer
Can adult Hirschsprungs, redundancy of transverse colon, cause accessory spleen from spleen injury caused by colon adhesion at the splenic flexure?
Not quite, but....: An accessory spleen is something that one person in four is born with, or that can happen if the splenic capsule is torn and some of the pulp is released. If this happened at the time that an injury formed the colonic adjesion, this may be the explanation. Accessory spleens are little curiosities for the most part. Best wishes.
Lucky you-you got 2: There is probably a long list of very rare things--but accessory (extra) spleens are not uncommon and most radiologists are comfortable is identifying them. Never know when an extra spleen might come in handy.See 1 more doctor answer
Injury can be trivia: Or serious. If you haven't had surgery yet, you probably fall into former category. Left upper quadrant pain with radiation to shoulder tip, palpable mass or abdominal distention, and anemia symptoms such as lightheadedness are typical symptoms, but you need an imaging test to confirm. See a doctor if you have any symptoms.See 1 more doctor answer
Spleen: If a spleen is enlarging relatively quickly from bleeding or infection, pain can occur from stretching the capsule.See 1 more doctor answer
Bleeding and pain: Ruptured or fractured spleen is usually from an accident, trauma, or injury. It can cause internal bleeding and left upper abdominal pain. Lab tests and likely a ct scan will make the diagnosis. Some lesser splenic injuries will heal on their own, and a major spleen injury would need surgery to remove the spleen.
Splenomegaly: Full feeling, pressure, or pain near the bottom of the ribs on the left. May have no symptoms.
Abdominal Pain: The spleen is a very vascular organ. Significant trauma may cause internal bleeding within the abdominal cavity. Blood is an irritant to the lining of the abdomen, causing pain wherever the blood may be. While the spleen resides behind the rib cage in the left upper abdomen, the pain can occur wherever the blood goes. If severe, the anemia can cause a rapid heart rate and/or lightheadedness.
If I was able to feel my spleen would I have pain and more symptoms? Maybe I'm not feeling my spleen
Normal: It is not usually possible to palpate a normal spleen. Spleens that are palpable are abnormal and enlarged generally as in infectious mononucleosis and other hematologic disorders.
