Having said that, if you do not have symptoms, it would be prudent to repeat the test in a few weeks. The usual cause of neutrophilic leukocytosis is bacterial infection. I have a WBC of 11.7 and a neutrophils (absolute) count of 7.9. Both are just outisde "high" range. Should I have this checked closer?
Depends: If you have no symptoms pointing to infection, and the morphology is normal, and your physician hasn't expressed concern, don't worry. The "range" is set to include 90% or so of apparently healthy people. A cold shower will shoot neutrophils well above normal range.
