Pimple: Whiteheads or cysts under the skin are often treated with extraction , a technique where a dermatologist makes a tiny nick in the skin with a small needle and presses out the sebum with an instrument (comedone extractor). If a cyst is present for a long time it may be surgically removed. See a dermatologist for treatment options based on the size and type of the cyst. ...Read more

Is it possible that my pilonidal cyst is just a collection of hair and skin debris causing a solid movable lump under the skin by the tailbone?

A chronic infection with intermittent drainage is common, and managing it before it becomes a worse infection is desireable, although not always possible. See a general surgeon for a consultation, and ask if they have experience with pilonidal cyst treatment. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Culture tests for staph/strep and perhaps consultation with a dermatologist or infectious diseases specialist may be advisable. See your doctor. ...Read more
