Yes: After the tooth is removed. The dentist will clean out the infected tissues around the tooth. Then the blood will fill in where tooth used to be and form a clot. If the clot is lost prematurely you will get dry socket (quite painful). But, the clot (or the hole as you called it) will eventually be filled in by bone and gum tissue. ...Read more

Had an abscess then my tooth was extracted but lump is still there from abscess has been 3 days since tooth extraction.. how long till it goes away.

Cannot predict: Without seeing the area before and after and the damage done by the abscess it is not possible to say. Are you on antibiotic ? Often this will help the swelling go down. Keep an eye on it as sometimes these do not heal right away and require further drainage. Do not hesitate to contact the Dentist who did the extraction if unsure. Good Luck. ...Read more

Where can I get more information about tooth extraction on an abscessed tooth that requires bone graphing?

Where can I get more information about tooth extraction on an abscessed tooth that requires bone graphing?

Basically the tooth will be extracted, the area cleaned of all infected tissue and a graft material placed (not needed if all walls are intact and you plan on an implant shortly) and the area is left to heal. Also talk to your surgeon as the web can give you too much information and every case is different. ...Read more
