What should I do about an abscess inside my cheek?

What should I do about an abscess inside my cheek?

See a dentist: Are the signs/symptoms in the cheek? If so, an infected accessory salivary gland may be present or maybe an infected parotid gland. If the gum tissues are the location, it may be an infected tooth or possible an infected periodontal pocket (the space between the tooth and gum tissue). An antibiotic may be helpful. See a dentist for help in diagnosis/treatment.

Be patient: The swelling and a "weird sensation" can take some time to resolve, even up to a 2-3 weeks. Follow up with your dentist or an oral surgeon as advised.

Got my wisdom teeth pulled 6/20/14, I've noticed a large abscess on my cheek need the surgical site, is this normal?

Not Normal!: An abscess as you describe is anything but normal! You need to call your oral surgeon or dentist immediately as it is potentially life threatening! If you are unable to make contact and you are feverish, have difficulty swallowing, actively draining pus, consider a visit to a hospital ER. Act quickly and good luck!

This: Sounds more like a clotted hemorrhoid than another abscess... Try sitz baths. Hot water until you can get it checked out Hope this is helpful Dr Z

When does an abscess in the cheek require immediate emergency treatment?

When does an abscess in the cheek require immediate emergency treatment?

Always!: A dental access that has spread to the cheek is an indication of a severe infection and requires immediate attention. If you can not get to an oral surgeon then go to the emergency room. This type of infection can spread to the eye and the brian and if left untreated can be fatal.

Recuperating from an abscess on my cheek, teeth not involved. I am on antibiotics. Could the abscess be causing my earache and sore throat?

Yes: Important to determine the cause of the abscess. See Dentist to make sure there is no dental involvement (teeth, gums, etc.) Know that you could also have a separate but coincidental problem, such as a virus or bacterial throat/ear infection.

Using heroin IM. I have 2 abscesses on each butt cheek that have recently popped. They are ozing pus. I'm taking amoxicillin. How can I prevent scar?

See a Doctor: 1. See a doctor for abcess treatment 2. Scars will not matter if you die from Heroin use. 3. Get on Suboxone treatment or get help for detox. You need medical attention can't do it by yourself. Please go to ER or local physician to start feeling better.

I have a allergy to almost all meds for abscessed teeth my cheek bone is swollen is there anything I can try to take the infection away naturally?

See Oral Surgeon: Infections of the teeth & jaws can be very serious. There are no valves in the veins of the head & neck so infections can spread backwards through the veins to vital structures including the brain. Serious complications can include stroke & death. See an oral surgeon to see if incision & drainage can control the swelling & infection as a first step. They can do cultures & find drugs to treat it.

I have a Very painful lump in my cheek that's getting worse. I have a feeling that it is a cheek abscess and I'm very worried. How are these treated?

I have a Very painful lump in my cheek that's getting worse. I have a feeling that it is a cheek abscess and I'm very worried. How are these treated?

By draining it: If you have an abscess, the way to treat it is to have it drained. This is a very quick and easy procedure. The doctor will numb up your skin and use a sterile scalpel to open the abscess. Once it drains you will feel 100% better! Please don't wait and suffer. It will only get worse and more painful.

How can you treat with an abscessed tooth with a swollen cheek?

How can you treat with an abscessed tooth with a swollen cheek?

Good question: Not sure what you mean exactly. If the tooth is infected causing an abscess and a swollen cheek extracting the tooth or a root canal should fix it. Geting a tooth worked on that is abscessed and when you are swollen can be painful because all the nerves are hypersensitive and its hard to open your mouth. Anesthetic also usually doesn't last as long.

Any: Any time there is a laceration through the skin it may leave a scar, but the surgeon will make every attempt to minimize the scar and can give you advice on wound care to minimize scarring, so please tell the surgeon your concerns. In addition, keep out of the sun as much as possible in the year after surgery or wear a hat and sunscreen (after the wound heals) so that the area won't darken.

My endodontist said I did not have a gumball nor an abscess nor a swollen cheek. So I didn't need antibiotics for my severe root canal pain. Is it true?

My endodontist said I did not have a gumball nor an abscess nor a swollen cheek. So I didn't need antibiotics for my severe root canal pain. Is it true?

True: Overuse of antibiotics is causing mutations and resistance in bacterial strains. If you do not have signs or symptoms of an infection, just pain then the need for an antibiotic is usually not necessary.

Dental abscess: A tooth abscess won't go away without treatment. A dental abscess is a collection of pus that forms in your teeth or gums as a result of a bacterial infection. The dentist will treat a tooth abscess by draining it and getting rid of the infection. See a dentist for treatment.
