Pyelonephritis treated with 4 rounds of ciprofloxacin. 2 weeks later I still have swelling around my kidney (on ultrasound) and mild pain. I have no other symptoms, urine, CRP and kidney function are okay. Is this normal recovery or is it an abscess?

Pyelonephritis treated with 4 rounds of ciprofloxacin. 2 weeks later I still have swelling around my kidney (on ultrasound) and mild pain. I have no other symptoms, urine, CRP and kidney function are okay. Is this normal recovery or is it an abscess?

Sounds OK: If there were an abscess, the ultrasound should have found it. Persistent swelling by ultrasound doesn't sound unusual or worrisome. And it's pretty much impossible to have an abscess with a normal CRP. Discuss with your doctor if you remain concerned.

In the past four months, I've had kidney stones, strep throat with a peritonsillar abscess, two colds and a flu-like virus. Do I just have bad luck?

In the past four months, I've had kidney stones, strep throat with a peritonsillar abscess, two colds and a flu-like virus. Do I just have bad luck?

Yes and No: Any time your body is stressed, certain hormones are released by your body to help you deal with the acute situation. While these are essential to help you during the acute event, they also slightly reduce your immune system, making you more prone to pick up something else. Listen to your body, and get plenty of extra rest, nutritious food, put stressors on the back burner and you will recover!

Why would my dr. Give me duloxetine for neck and lower back pain I was getting oxycodone and lyrica (pregabalin) but stopped seeing dr. After I got a abscess in my neck from shots he was giving me

Why would my dr. Give me duloxetine for neck and lower back pain I was getting oxycodone and lyrica (pregabalin) but stopped seeing dr. After I got a abscess in my neck from shots he was giving me

Cymbalta (duloxetine): Duloxetine is a good medicine for pain, anxiety, depression and nerve style pain. Just because your were on oxycodone doesn't mean you need to be back on it. Lyrica (pregabalin) on the other hand might be needed and you might want to ask your doctor about restarting that. If you need opiate pain medicines and your doctor will not rx it, you should seek a pain management referral.

Check with surgeon: Other issues may be causing this, i.e. Persistence of a peri-rectal component, or constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, etc. Don't let this answer your question. Confirm with your surgeon.
