Abnormal Pap Test Results
It depends.: A pap smear is a test used to screen for cervical cancer, where a doc takes a sample of cells from the cervix. There is a wide range of abnormal results. Some pap tests come back showing you have a virus called hpv which is extremely common in sexually active women. Pap smears can also show that the cells of the cervix themselves are abnormal, showing pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can fingering trigger an abnormal pap test? The result I had was endometrial cells found at cervix.
Pap smear: Abnormalities are common , mild ones , like atypical cells of undetermined significance usually clear up on their own, can be related to inflammation. Other higher grade lesions are commonly associated with hpv and can be treated at the gynecologist's office. Your physician will probably have you repeat the pap smear to make sure the abnormality has cleared up. Take care! ...Read more

I have had an abnormal result from my pap test. I would like some more information about the procedure needed to remove the bad cells.
Just follow?: At age 23, it would be unusual to require any procedure to remove bad cells from the cervix. If your doctor is recommending this, it may be helpful to get a 2nd opinion. You can repost your question with the pathology report from your colposcopy & cervical biopsies included in the question. If you're a smoker, stop now. Smoking decreases the chance that you'll clear this without treatment. ...Read more
With abnormal cells.: A pap is abnormal when there are atypical cells in it. These may be atypical from infection, in which case there would be other evidence, like white cells, organisms, blood, etc.. They can be atypical due to neoplastic changes, so there would be cells called consistent with low or high grade neoplasia. Rarely, if a cause is not pinpointed, the smear is atypical with undetermined significance. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I experienced bleeding (twice) during sex. And my pap test recently came back as abnormal. Could this be a result of a cyst?
Normal Pap test results STD and STI tests negative. No pain during sex. Still have small amounts of blood after intercourse????
Blood=tissue damage: Any active non-menstrual bleeding/spotting you have after intercourse would reflect some type of injury to tissues exposed to the mechanical forces involved. You might see a small bleeding site with a close self exam (lighted mirror) or a doc could locate the site. If it is minimal and you keep the areas clean it will likely stop.If you are soaking pads you need to be evaluated. ...Read more

My pap smear test results are neg, but also says cervicitis my obg, says i repeat test in 6mths, should I have a 2nd opinion? As I am trying to conceive
Yes: There is no need to repeat a pap smear unless it's abnormal. Cervicitis is treated with antibiotics and cervical infections can be evaluated for quickly without the need for waiting six months. First ask your doctor to explain the reasoning for their plan as they may provide informantion that would make it reasonable to wait. However if you are uncomfortable with the plan seek a second opinion. ...Read more
