Need for follow-up: You do not have cancer but have higher than normal risk for cancer. You should get PAP smears done yearly, more frequently if your doctor suggests. Pregnancy would be okay, but make sure that you are taking pre-natal vitamins and keep in touch with your doctor for care throughout pregnancy. ...Read more

If i have abnormal pap smear hpv not vesibal genital wart.. and i get baby by normal vaginal delivary dose my baby get infected by hpv?please help

If you have HPV,: the infant can acquire it during delivery. "Congenital HPV" can make a newborn very sick. I don't know how old your baby is, but the symptoms can begin up to 30 days after delivery. Women with obvious lesions are more likely to transmit HSV to the baby, so your baby's risk is lower. It's also lower if you got your first outbreak before pregnancy. Please talk with your pediatrician. Dr. Anne ...Read more

Had abnormal pap smear and then a colposcopy. Went back a year later and no abnormal cells present. Does this mean I have HPV?

You had HPV now gone: Abnormal cells of the cervix always means HPV; you can be sure you had HPV at the time of your abnormal pap and colposcopy. With your pap smear now normal, it is likely that the underlying HPV infection also has cleared up. Confirm with the doctor who treated you. Also ask her about getting vaccinated to reduce the risk of future infections with high-risk and wart-causing HPV strains. Good luck! ...Read more

Colposcopy best : Colposcopy is the best way to evaluate abnormal pap smears. Fortunately women in their 20's can fight off hpv infections without specific treatment but it may take 1-2 years to do so. So long as no high grade changes are seen, one can just wait it out. ...Read more

I had an abnormal pap smear and i don't have HPV so should I be concerned? I'm only 22 and the doctor said i'll need another one in 6 months.

Yes: You should be concerned enough to follow through with the recommended recheck. You should not be worried, because even if something develops that needs to be treated, it will be found and treated long before it can become a major problem. A little inconvenience now will preclude a big problem later. The women who do have the big issues (cervical cancer) are those who do not follow up as needed. ...Read more

I have recently had an abnormal pap smear and it could be hpv. I am married, should I be having sex or unprotected sex? This is the first abnormal pap smear that I have ever had.

I have recently had an abnormal pap smear and it could be hpv. I am married, should I be having sex or unprotected sex? This is the first abnormal pap smear that I have ever had.

If : If you are married and have had unprotected sex with your husband up until now, and you test positive for hpv, the odds of him having it are very high. Hpv is very common; it is estimated that 1/3-4 people are carriers of the virus. There are many different strains, some more harmful than others, the most worrisome for you are the strains that cause cervival cancer. Your doctor can explain the specifics (there are many). This is a very tricky situation because there is no screening test for men to check for hpv, but like i said the odds of him having the same hpv type as you are high. If you both are monogamous then i would say that condoms are not necessary. If you ever have another partner, then yes a condom is recommended to prevent further spread. There is a lot of information on this topic, and every situation is different. I suggest you make a list of questions for your doctor when you return for your results. Best of luck. ...Read more
