Mammo shows Heterogeneously dense which may obsure sm masses Birads 2 breasts no suspicious masses dr wanting ultrasound report said annual mammo ?

Need sono: Mammo with heterogeneous dense mass needs evaluation as to whether a lesion is hiding in area of density. This can be accomplished by sono or MRI but resolution of density required. The sono can detect a specific region that could be suspicious and require bx. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Ultrasound showing a mass but CT scan normal?

Depends: This depends on the organ of interest. This is not uncommon with the ovaries and uterus as us has an advantage. This is same with the breasts as well. Ultrasound findings , abnormal bleeding for 5 weeks..Endometrium thickness was 0.7cm uterus is diffusley heterogeneous calcifications both ovaries?

Ultrasound findings , abnormal bleeding for 5 weeks..Endometrium thickness was 0.7cm uterus is diffusley heterogeneous calcifications both ovaries?

Dysfunctional Bleed: Abnormal bleeding could be caused by an endometrial abnormality such as a polyp or tumor. A hysterosonogram, in which saline is instilled into the uterine cavity during ultrasound may provide more information. An endometrial biopsy will likely be needed to better define the problem. Irregular bleeding may also be experienced in the perimenopausal period. ...Read more

Normal pap but ultrasound shoes uterine thickening with polyp?

Normal pap but ultrasound shoes uterine thickening with polyp?

Pap smears: Pap smears allow pathologists to evaluate cells from the cervix (the outside or ectocervix and inside or endocervix). Most of the time we do not find cells from the endometrial cavity in the test slide because the pap smear collection brush should not go into the endometrium. Additional biopsies are required to evaluate endometrial pathology. ...Read more

Mammo shows Heterogeneously dense breasts Birads 2 Benign finding what does Heterogeneously dense breast mean? my dr wants a ultrasound is it needed?

Uniform dense breast: In the young female the breast is extremely dense and consists of mostly breast tissue. With age, the breast tissue is dispersed with fatty tissue so that over 35yo mammo can be performed and one can visualize breast tissue. In some patients over 50 the mammo shows only sheets of dense breast tissue with no fat spread interstitially. Here a small lesion can only be detected by ultrasound. ...Read more

Could a trans-vaginal ultrasound detect endometrial hyperplasia?

Could a trans-vaginal ultrasound detect endometrial hyperplasia?

Hard to be certain: Ultrasound is never 100%, but several findings are suspicious for endometrial hyperplasia or even cancer. For instance, if your lining is excessively thick for your age or if there is a suspicious mass seen within the uterine cavity on the sonogram, hyperplasia or cancer may be present. However, other findings can cause similar images on sonogram. Also, diagnosis can only be made with a biopsy. ...Read more

Level 3 cervical lymphnode had abnormal morphology on ct, getting an excision biopsy soon. What do abnormal morphology mean? Doc suspects lymphoma

Level 3 cervical lymphnode had abnormal morphology on ct, getting an excision biopsy soon. What do abnormal morphology mean? Doc suspects lymphoma

Shape/Size Mostly: CT shows nodal shape, size and if it is has fat (a good thing). Most nodes are oval or kidney shaped. If they are round and big, they may be involved in something like lymphoma. Sometimes infection can do this too, so it is not a slam dunk. I'm afraid you'll just have to wait it out for the path report as CT is non specific. MR with fancy contrast is better but still not as good as Bx. ...Read more

What do abnormal pap test results mean?

What do abnormal pap test results mean?

It depends.: A pap smear is a test used to screen for cervical cancer, where a doc takes a sample of cells from the cervix. There is a wide range of abnormal results. Some pap tests come back showing you have a virus called hpv which is extremely common in sexually active women. Pap smears can also show that the cells of the cervix themselves are abnormal, showing pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. ...Read more

Done 3 urine tests. positive. about 4 weeks pregnant. Vaginal ultrasound scan shows embryo but with no yolk sac. Endo thickness: 19.3mm. Worried?

Give it time: Our technology to detect pregnancies is amazing but sometimes we see structures well before they get formed. Give it time for the sac to form structures; you can repeat the US in 1-2 weeks to assess growth. This can be correlated with hormone level checks as well to ensure appropriate rise Best Wishes Dr M ...Read more

Tsh @ 6.85, ft4 normal ultrasound: normal size, extremity heterogeneous, normal vascularity but irregular heterogeneous nodule 1.1x0.7x0.7cm. Cancer?

Not Likely: Thyroid nodules are very common. About 70% of the population has a nodule (many don't know it). About 5% of nodules are cancerous, which is why we care. If there were concerning characteristics on the ultrasound like microcalcifications, taller than wide, >1cm or increased blood flow or you have a family history or radiation exposure we like to perform an fna biopsy to check for cancer. ...Read more
