Abdominal Pain Worse During Defecation
Having severe upper abdominal pain before having a bowel movement. Before today I haven't gone in a week. Is this something severe?
Need more info...: It is definitely not normal to have severe pain at any time. If it is related to a bowel movement, I would think about intestinal blockage. Your doctor will want to know if you are at least passing gas, as this will indicate partial versus full blockage (which must be ruled out). Some people can go for several weeks without bowel movement, but pain is not normal. See your doctor for eval ASAP. ...Read more
This morning I had a bowel movement that was white with severe upper abdominal pain that went straight through to my back. ER or Dr on Monday?
To ER is Human: ER. White stool isn't exactly clean stool, it indicates a blockage in your bile duct that could get real serious. There are other causes of a light colored stool but this one can get out of hand. You already have severe pain so don't wait for it to get better. It probably won't.The ER will be more efficient in deciding what you have, You probably have a great private doctor and they will contact him ...Read more

55 possible reasons!: However, most common reasons are usually benign. I agree with the other doctors: you need to pay a visit to your doc, and more history needs to be obtained. Make sure stool is not hard (should be like peanut butter in consistency). Make sure eating is not stressful and forceful. Don't ask much about pain, but be very observant, if clear signs of persistent pain then see your doc even sooner. ...Read more
Many causes: Excessive straining may just cause pain from overstretching/overpushing of the bowels. It may also be that you stressed your abdominal muscles. Sometimes, if you are known to have a hernia (umbilical or groin), you may push it out and it may get trapped causing severe pain. This is an emergency and needs to be dealt with in er. Some patients especially elderly may end up with spine fractures. ...Read more
