The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). Need more info: If the pain is in the area of the stomach and you were bearing down hard to move your bowels, then it could be that in the process of bearing down you increased the pressure in the belly enough to push stomach acid into the food tube or esophagus. This would then cause pain due to the nature of how you exerted yourself to defecate. Seems like a long time to have pain post movement. See your doc. ...Read more
I've been having upper left abdominal pain after bowel movement. It's dull pain that lasts about 5 mins. Could not drinking enough water cause this?
Lower abdominal pain when bowel movement is trying to be passed. Those muscles hurt. Constant stomach gurgling. Diarrhea. Tightness in upper abdomen?
If..: If symptoms have been present only for a few days this can be caused by a virus most of the time. In this case drinking plenty of fluids, rest and taking over the counter antidiarrheal meds and analgesics helps with symptoms. If this has been going on for more than a week or so then it is time to get checked. Make an appointment with your doctor if this is the case. ...Read more
Pain in lower back/abdomen, cramping, stomach pain with nausea during bowel movements. 5 days dihareah & pain, finally solid with same symptoms above?
Gastroenteritis: There are multiple possible explanations here. My advice would be to see a doctor if, within the next several days, the symptoms continue despite the resolution of the diarrhea. The inflammation produced by the infecting organism (if this is due to infection) may produce residual inflammation causing the abdominal pain and nausea. ...Read more
Hemorrhoids likely.: This is likely due to hemorrhoids. The history strongly suggest it, since pain is after a bowel movement, and likely associated with straining. It could be anal fissure, or possibly another colon/anal issue. Depending on your age, and if this has been going on a while, you might want to see your doctor to get a rectal exam/testing to make sure it is not worse, like cancer, etc.. ...Read more
I've had left abdomen pain, occasional hard bowel movements and microscopic blood in stool. Now notice I have some small areas of black tar stool that I haven't yet told doctor. Her working differencal is IBS with diverticulitis. Is correct w/ tar?
Melena: Black tarry stool, otherwise known as melena, can sometimes be due to diverticulitis, but certainly can be a sign of bleeding in the upper digestive tract. You should share this new finding with your doctor and see if it affects her working differential. You may need tests to rule out an upper gastrointestinal source of bleeding. Good luck. ...Read more

Back and lower abdomen pain that radiates to my legs, indigestion, loose bowel movements, 37 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Sign of labor?
How come I had a short and sharp pain in lower right abdominal and pelvic pain during bowel movement?
Referred pain?: The rectum, uterus and bladder are anatomically close to one another and the sensory nerves are interconnected to some degree. If you had a hard or large bowel movement. or were straining, this could trigger referred pain to the lower abdomen & pelvis. If this pain recurs or if it, becomes more frequent, severe or long lasting, you should see a doctor. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

For 3 days have constant stomach ache, but normal bowel movements & no nausea. Then today stool was covered in NEON green slime, sticky pellets?
Black white and red : are bad stool colors. Green is not concerning. Not sure exactly if it's just bile mixed with what ever you have eaten but your stomach ache is more a concern if prolonged and associated with those other colors. There is a wide differential for stomachaches in a 19 yo woman. Consult with your doctor and consider whether or not you have been using excessive amounts of NSAIDs for any reason. ...Read more

Having severe upper abdominal pain before having a bowel movement. Before today I haven't gone in a week. Is this something severe?
Need more info...: It is definitely not normal to have severe pain at any time. If it is related to a bowel movement, I would think about intestinal blockage. Some people can go for several weeks without bowel movement, but pain is not normal. See your doctor for eval ASAP. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
