Check calcium level : My first thought would be that your calcium levels or thyroid hormone levels are not right. I's possible to have long lasting drop in calcium after a thyroidectomy. Please ask your pmd or surgeon if these have been checked recently, if they are off, these levels should be corrected. If these levels are normal it may just be coincidental to the thyroid surgery and would need en exam and work up. ...Read more

Multifactorial: Assuming you are talking about activity related cramps, i would say that the two most likely causes are electrolyte(salts) imbalance and poor hydration. Gatorade has an excellent site for fluid replacement in relation to excercise. In general you should be drinking 64 oz of fluid per day plus 12 oz for each hour of intense exercise.
