OTCs: Drink plenty of fluids, and may use OTC Azo, tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin type meds as necessary, but if no better in 2 days or so, or getting worse, need to see a health care provider, even may be an urgent care clinic. ...Read more

R/O KIDNEY STONE: Flank pain with those symptoms is concerning for kidney stone or kidney infection. You need a full exam labs urine C&S. 24 urine for stone analysis kidney ultrasound or CT.. And usually empiric antibiotic therapy pending the results. Make sure to strain your urine and try to capture any debris , it may be a kidney stone. Push fluids water/cranberry juice. ...Read more

Sx can overlap: Kidney stones are rock like collections pf materials that can form within the kidney collection system and can travel down into the bladder & out. More likely cyst: It is more likely to be a cyst, but there are other important considerations: appendicitis, ectopic pregnancy, hernia, diverticulitis. Much less likely is ovarian cancer unless you have a strong family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer. An ultrasound would be helpful if your symptoms persist or get worse. ...Read more

Needs diagnosis: He was probably born with posterior urethral valves (PUV) which Dr SB resected at age-1-yr. He may have urethral stricture at site of resection & thus requires urethrogram (VCUG) & likely cystoscopy. Might respond to endoscopic urethrotomy. Kidney damage common with PUV. Children's hospitals usually have endowment funds to help with such cases & many Drs. will treat pro bono after treating so long ...Read more
