What are some fun sobriety tips to make continued abstinence more likely?

What are some fun sobriety tips to make continued abstinence more likely?

The very best: (1) Begin dating non-drinkers. (2) Take up skydiving. There is no alcohol until the sun sets, and everywhere that I've ever jumped, there's a group of AA types. (3) Express gratitude to the people who helped you quit, and talk about how your life is better. If you owe any apologies, make them -- it'll be "good pain". ...Read more

How many years of sobriety should a recovering alcoholic have before working in a place that sells liquor?

How many years of sobriety should a recovering alcoholic have before working in a place that sells liquor?

No right answer: For some people it is never, and for others it can be immediate. I have known people enter recovery who were working as bartenders, while continuing to work. For most people, the first 3 years are critical at dealing with relapse triggers (like being around alcohol or being around drinking), and i advise my patients to avoid triggers for at least one year when possible. ...Read more

Waiting for a liver trans. After years of sobriety need to ask dr. For pain-meds, no prior pharms but know i need something strong, ? How do I proceed

Type of pain: Talk to your doctor about the type of pain you're having. There are anti-inflammatories, narcotics, pain medicines that are specific for nerve pain. Some of these may be safe in somebody with liver disease, and some aren't, but knowing the type of pain will help guide your doctor in suggesting the best medicine. ...Read more

My sobriety is my number one thing, i give myself credit for not drinking but I smoke a joint a day no cravings. Do you feel it has no medical value?

My sobriety is my number one thing, i give myself credit for not drinking but I smoke a joint a day no cravings. Do you feel it has no medical value?

I might be persuaded: to admit that there could be some calming or tranquilizing value in a marijuana cigarette. But the smoking part DOES carry some risk. Since you are so committed to your sobriety, I think it would be the wisest choice to develop other, non-chemical strategies to promote relaxation and tranquility: yoga, meditation, a hot bath. Congratulations on moving in the right direction. Stay well:) ...Read more

Binge drinking heavily for about 7 years with on off sobriety never lasting more than 3 months. 3 seizure in the past and curious how long the danger ?

Binge drinking heavily for about 7 years with on off sobriety never lasting more than 3 months. 3 seizure in the past and curious how long the danger ?

It's your choice: Your seizures are likely secondary to your alcohol abuse, and you may well have permanent risk. You do NOT list your meds but hope you are taken anti-seizure meds. Best bet is to join AA, attend meetings and follow program to the letter. Avoid alcohol, or otherwise, expect more problems including liver failure. Until you decide, at least take Thiamine 50 mg daily. ...Read more

Can hepatits b be caused by chronic alcohol abuse, and is there a cure for it? I am a recovering alcoholic, sober for 12 years. No history of heavy drug use, no needles whatsoever.Quite a past in the sex department, although only 3 partners in sobriety(12

I : I added a link below from the center of disease control that may answer all of your questions in depth. To summarize: you can only catch hepatitis b from: - birth - mom to baby transmission - sharing needles with an infected person - having sex with an infected person - being in direct contact with the blood or open sores of an infected person - sharing a tooth brush or razor with an infected person (because of bleeding with those 2 activities) you cannot catch hepatitis b through breastfeeding, drinking, saliva, sharing utensils, hugging, kissing, touching, coughing or sneezing. 6-10% of adults with hepatitis b go on to have chronic hepatitis b (that means in 90-94% of people, it just goes away). 15-25% of people with chronic hepatitis b will go on to have liver disease. ...Read more

My latheral incissor (right side) is slightly chipped. I want to know how to fix it. Thanks?

My latheral incissor (right side) is slightly chipped. I want to know how to fix it. Thanks?

Many options: You may have several options to repair a lateral incisor, but first x-rays should be taken and an examination needs to be done to determine vitality of the nerve, gum/bone support around the tooth, strength of the enamel and how much of the tooth is chipped/broken. Depending upon the findings, you may be able to have it smoothed down, built up with acrylic, veneer, crown, etc. ...Read more

I think i may have chipped my tooth. What would happen?

I think i may have chipped my tooth. What would happen?

See your dentist: Depending on the cause & size of the chip, you might need something as simple a quick tooth smoothing (if very small chip of the biting edge) all the way up to a root canal treatment & crown or extraction (if the tooth chip occurred due to significant decay or if the tooth has a major fracture making the tooth unrestorable). See your dentist for an evaluation and treatment for your exact problem. ...Read more

Tooth is chipped. Should i get it fixed?

Yes: Depending on location and extent, simply smoothing the area may be all you need. Have it evaluated, because seemingly small chips can actually be due to decay in the area which has weakened the enamel. It's always easier to deal with problems early and when they are small. ...Read more
