Need more tests: A1c of 7 is in the diabetes range but you can't make the diagnosis on one number. I recommend repeating the tests to confirm. Good luck. ...Read more

R/O DIABETES 2: HBA1C of 6.5 is the cut off for Diabetes 2, it is a very common condition. The first step is to focus on weight loss. Weight gain/Obesity is at the root of most adult onset diabetes . What can cause an A1c test be high (7) and daily blood glucose low (80-100)?

What can cause an A1c test be high (7) and daily blood glucose low (80-100)?

Blood glucose: The a1c is an average of all your blood sugars over about 2 months. How often do you test your glu? You can't measure your glu 24/7. An a1c of 7.0 is actually fairly good. I suspect there is a time of day when your glu values are higher than you may realize. Most commonly this is during the night, maybe early am. This is called the dawn phenomenon. ...Read more

I have used glucerna for couple days and my blood glucose has improved tremendously (healthy low range). Should I continue using it to improve my A1C?

Yes : given that you have DM and are now decreasing your intake is the reason for better BS control. If it takes glucerna for you to control your diet then please continue. Had a fasting blood work done 3 days ago. My glucose level was 274, triglycerides was 356 and A1c was 9.1. Please advise.

Uncontrolled Type 2 : This is a chicken and the egg thing. You have diabetes out of control and need to start metformin and Bydureon for a >2 point a1c reduction. The high triglycerides are poisoning your pancreas and liver such that they are having a hard time "turning the corner." you may need to treat the triglycerices and the sugars to get out of your current toxicity; and stick with a diabetic lifestyle program! ...Read more

No: A fasting glucose in the mid 80's and an hga1c of 5.7 are both totally normal results. Should not be a concern unless there are other health issues. The stress, however, could be more of a concern if not handled properly. ...Read more
