I have kerdaconus for 18 years both eyes 20 /200, use to make good money 50 to 80k and now 12000 pr year for 4 years can I get ssi?
Depends what your Dr: Says, most notably your eye doctor, and how much your previous job depended on your vision. If you need a seeing eye dog, and cane then this may significantly affect you. Start there, as there's a lot of paperwork involved. It can take months. Plus, SSI and SS benefits in general are changing. You need to use low vision aids and learn Braille to help you navigate through this. Best of luck! ...Read more

Is it safe to use corticosteroids around the skin surrounding the eyes. Outer corners of both eyes get eczema. Thanks.
No: You might get away with it, but corticosteroids have a small, but real risk of causing cataracts and glaucoma as well as a peculiar rash known as "perioral dermatitis". We prefer to use tacrolimus ointment or sirolimus cream as these are very effective but are not steroids and probably are free of risks. They are much more expensive, but a small tube used on eyelid eczema will last 2 or 3 years. ...Read more
Is it normal to get a floater in only one eye? I normally always have floaters in both eyes. I have no other symptoms though. Should I be concerned?
Yes, no concern:
Floaters are very common, become more common as we get older and are usually benign.
It is very common to get floaters in one eye only and this is no reason to be concerned. Getting many new floaters all at once, esp. If accompanied by seeing flashes of light, can be a sign of retinal detachment and deserves urgent evaluation.

If I look r to l I see a small white speck at one point & then it's gone. Happens with both eyes open & in each eye w/the other eye covered. Cataract?
Vitreous floater: The clear gel that fills eyeball is normally attached to the back of the eye. As we get older it can become more liquid (watery) and detaches from the back of the retina causing a floater of compressed gel or a weiss ring where it was attached to the back of the retina. Flashes can indicate a retinal tear. You should see your eye for worsening flashes floaters for a change in your side vision. ...Read more

I had a eye exam week and there is a thin white ring, not completely filled in around the cornea on both eyes, is there a way to get rid of it?
Arcus lipoides: You most likely have a condition called arcus lipoides (a.K.A. Arcus senilis). It is due to cholesterol depositing in the corneal periphery. Although these rings cause no harm to the eye, they can be a sign of high cholesterol in the blood. You should get your cholesterol checked by an internist, and reducing your cholesterol can possibly reduce the appearance of the rings. ...Read more

Have cataracts in both eyes 3 years - blurred/double vision - have to buy new glasses every 6 mod. Dr said cataracts not big enough for surgery yet.?
Cataracts: Decision when to have cataract surgery depends on: how much glare/halos you have when driving at night if you drive at night (what did your glare test show?); effect on your activities of daily living; loss of best corrected vision; microscopic exam at slit lamp of cataract; other risk factors (pseudoexfoliation, glaucoma, diabetes & it's control= causes vision flux). I have unequal refractive power in both eyes and I get persisting eye strain. Is there a solution?
Adjust power: Once the eyes are unequal over 2 or 3 diopters (anisometropia), some people may experience eye strain. Also large differences can cause image size disparity (aniseikonia). Either adjust the refractive power by undercorrecting to match, by using contact lens, by doing some sort of refractive procedure, i.e. Lasik, lens removal, exchange or placement, etc. ...Read more

Why would I get floaters in both eyes at the same time? Don't tell me to see a doctor because 2 eye docs said nothing is wrong.
Floaters: Are usually just cells which have sloughed off of the retina because they were replaced by new ones. They can happen in one or both eyes. The reason your eye doctors told you nothing is wrong is that they are not dangerous or vision threatening. They should go away in time. Hope this helps! ...Read more
I had a seizure at church and when I got home I noticed that I have a small red mark under my eye and red dots under both eyes. Never had this before.
Visit your physician: If this is your first seizure I would recommend you see your doctor and a neurologist to determine if this seizure is going to reoccur and if you need medications. If this is not your first seizure, perhaps you need to change your anti-seizure medication. Regarding the red mark and red dots under both eyes I would recommend a physician have look at you and determine this is not platelet issue. ...Read more

Mom's (70) getting cataract surgery. Will get 20/20 for distance in 1 eye & 20/20 for close-up in other. Why can't Doc give total 20/20 in both eyes?
It is possible: She would have to pay for each eye for a "premium" lens which costs an extra $1000 each. She has probably discussed this with the surgeon and decided on the very workable option of setting one eye for near and one for far. Ask if she knows about premium lenses. ...Read more
3 weeks now, small rashy looking red spots next to both eyes above my cheekbones. Don't itch at all. Rx hydrocortisone doesn't help. What could it be?
Rash on face: It is really not possible to diagnose a rash without seeing it, but based on location and your description, rosacea certainly is a possibility. This is a form of acne which is often treated with topical antibiotic cream, ointment or gel containing metronidazole and sometimes systemic antibiotics such as doxycycline. ...Read more
