Vitreous floater: The clear gel that fills eyeball is normally attached to the back of the eye. As we get older it can become more liquid (watery) and detaches from the back of the retina causing a floater of compressed gel or a weiss ring where it was attached to the back of the retina. Flashes can indicate a retinal tear. You should see your eye for worsening flashes floaters for a change in your side vision. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Maybe: It is important to establish the actual cause of the scotomas. There is a type of glaucoma called normal tension glaucoma where the eye pressure measures in a range that would be normal for others but still causes damage in the patient. Scotomas can also be caused by migraines and other neurological causes. Health of the optic nerve is first assessed with a dilated fundus exam. ...Read more

Common : Opacities in the vitreous gel that fills the eye are enhanced when the light is bright and diffuse, and are called floaters. Patients who notice floaters for the first time should have a retinal exam, as you did, to make sure that there are no associated retinal tears or other problems.
