A Fractured Clavicle Is Treated With Not Cast
Clavicle fracture: Clavicle fractures are difficult to immobilize. They are not castes. We used to use figure of 8 harness, but results same using simple sling. And sling better tolerated. If displaced and shortened, surgery may be recommended, depending on patient and fracture "personality". ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

I have a wrist fracture with the scaphoid bone broken at the waist. Can i insist that bone not be taken from my hip to fix it? Surgery was recommended by an orthopedic doctor to repair a non-union wrist fracture with the scaphoid bone broken at the waist
No: Depends on the fracture and how much bone is needed. One study showed bone grafting from distal radius had lower healing rates than graft from the hip. But in some selected cases (but not all) percutaneous fixation can be used with or without bone graft. Ask your surgeon what is best in you. Would it be better if non displaced weber b distal fibula fractures with soft tissue and partial aftl and deltoidligament tears be treated operatively?
Depends on stability: Nondisplaced weber b fractures can often be treated nonsurgically. The decision to operate on these depends on the stability of the deltoid ligament. An orthopaedic surgeon can evaluate your xrays and perform a stress xray of your ankle to test for this and help you make decisions regarding surgery. Surgery does not heal the ankle faster, just with the bones in a better position when necessary. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Can a healed stress fracture be diagnosed as more serious fracture on X-ray when a healed fracture is found?
They are same: A stress fracture is just a type fracture. Only difference is it occurs with chronic repetitive stress instead of a single episode of trauma. They both heal the same. Bony callous will form. If the stress continues, the area can refracture, and more callous will form. Therefore, a stress fracture is just as serious, especially if you have not identified cause. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Does a 90 year old with a displaced, slightly fractured tibia have to have surgery or can it be put in a cast?
Possibly: Depending on the patient's medical condition, and preinjury walking status, and the exact nature of the fracture (i.e. how displaced is the fracture?), a minimally displaced fracture often can be treated without surgery (i.e. a cast). However, the final decision will depend on the exact imaging findings and the opinion of your orthopedist. ...Read more
