Had acid reflux in back of throat for a couple of weeks. Now have a feeling of a lump at back of throat. Could acid have damaged my throat ?

Reflux: This is quite common with advanced reflux. It causes a foreign body sensation in the back of the throat which is called globus. It will take at least a few months of treatment with reflux meds to get better. You need to get the throat examined by an ENT doctor to ensure it is reflux before you begin treatment. Good luck and feel better. ...Read more

The regurgitation or reflux can vary greatly as can the symptoms. Blocking stomach acid with medications can alleviate the burning but medication cannot stop the reflux. I've had hoarseness and a feeling of throat tightness around my voice box on & off for a year, also gastritis. Could this be acid relux to my larynx?

YES: YES!- GERD and hoarseness are commonly seen together. I suggest a medical examination, possible endoscopy, a test for H. pylori and PPI therapy for GERD. I also suggest voice rest and avoidance of NSAIDS and alcohol. ...Read more

Is the sensation of something stuck in your throat a symptom of acid reflux/GERD?

It can be.: That sensation may be a manifestation of food actually having a tough time going through an irritated esophagus, or it may be what is called globus sensation. Globus sensation is the feeling of something in the throat when nothing is there. It may be related to reflux also. Frequently that sensation goes away with good control of acid reflux. I've made a phlegmy throat for a while now and I've noticed a bitter taste at the back of my throat after drinking water. Could the two be related?

Maybe: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from another cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat symptom is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). The doctor can also look for a sinus infection. ...Read more

Can GERD cause voice hoarseness and a tight feeling in my throat when im swallowing food? My family has a history of gerd.

Maybe: It can certainly cause hoarse voice, but of those seeking relief if respiratory symptoms with anti reflux procedures only have about a 60-70% chance if success. The tight feeling you have in your throat is even less clear as to the cause, but its not dangerous. ...Read more

I'm having a lot of acid reflux, indigestion, sensation of food stuck in my throat. Also, I have had laryngitis for the past 6 weeks. Always feel full?

You need: to be evaluated by a GI (Gastroenterologist) Provider who will probably wish to endoscopically confirm the diagnosis and treat with appropriate Proton Pum Inhibitors (ag PRILOSEC) and possibly H-2 Blockers (PEPCID , ZANTAC (ranitidine) The laryngitis can ALSO be due to ACID and the "fullness" may be due to a co-existing HIATUS HERNIA Hope this helps! My daughter has mild case of reflux (spit a bit) and gagging and coughing. What could be causing this?

GER reduction: Certain foods, activities, medications and conditions that increase pressure in your abdomen can trigger reflux. An over the counter acid reflux medication may help these symptoms, but see your doctor for evaluation if you are not relieved or if your symptoms change or worsen. Untreated acid reflux can cause esophageal strictures, respiratory problems, ulcers and throat disorders. ...Read more

Bad acid in throat for 3 days then thick, swollen feeling in throat, lower part. Related? Just reflux? Acid now passed - can I have a glass of wine?

Bad acid in throat for 3 days then thick, swollen feeling in throat, lower part. Related? Just reflux? Acid now passed - can I have a glass of wine?

Sounds like Reflux: Probably reflux which can be related to certain things you eat and drink and alcohol especially can cause reflux. I would tread carefully you might find wine is ok or makes reflux come back. You can also now take over the counter anti-acid like Prilosec to help with reflux symptoms. ...Read more

Dose silent reflux in a baby cause a cough and phlegm in throat with frothy texture in a 4.5 month old baby he's on losec (omeprazole) but i can't get rid of cough?

Dose silent reflux in a baby cause a cough and phlegm in throat with frothy texture in a 4.5 month old baby he's on losec (omeprazole) but i can't get rid of cough?

It can: Reflux in infants is a common trigger for a cough. The Prilosec decreases stomach acid and may decrease irritation, but it does not stop the reflux, it just makes it less painful. With time and gradual assumption of an upright posture for more hours/day, the reflux and related cough decreases. It iften peaks around the 4-5 month period. ...Read more

Been getting acid reflux (felt in throat) daily. 10mg or 20mg of famotidine stops it every time. Is this indicative of something more serious?

Been getting acid reflux (felt in throat) daily. 10mg or 20mg of famotidine stops it every time. Is this indicative of something more serious?

Diet and more: The reflux can be a sign that your eating/sleeping habits aren't the best or that there's a real problem. There may be a hernia hiding in your stomach/chest or, you may have damage to the esophagus from the repeated acid exposure. If this has been going on for more than 2 weeks, see a provider for advice about whether you need to see a GI for endoscopy that checks for both. ...Read more

I've cleaned my toilet with a lime scale preventer. Chocked at the time and jave a chesty cough like with a chest infection that gurgles ?

You should see a doc: If this was chlorine, (there should be warnings on the label) you could have a nasty irritation of the lining of the lungs, or even a secondary infection if this happened yesterday or before. See your GP, or A&E if any shortness of breath or fever. ...Read more

I have a grandson that is 8 weeks old with acid reflux disease. Right now he's suffering from pharynx congestion. What can we give for the congestion?

Couple things: Treat one nostril at a time. Put a few drops of saline spray, like ayr for babies, in one side, then squeeze the bulb syringe until flat and insert into the side with the saline, open when in the nostril an it will suck out the saline and the congestion, remove it, clean it and repeat on the other side . Use a cool mist humidifier in the sleeping room. ...Read more

Can acid reflux cause a sore throat? I have heartburn mostly at night and have a slight soreness in my throat most of the time.

Acid : Acid reflux can most definitely cause a sore throat. If you are routinely experiencing symptoms of gastro-esophageal reflux disease (gerd) such as: - heartburn - sore throat - "lump in the throat" sensation or difficulty swallowing - acidic or sour taste in your mouth - dry cough - hoarseness - regurgitation (wet burps) it is important to discuss these symptoms with your doctor. There are many antacid and acid blocker medications that can help alleviate your symptoms. Hi I have a very runny nose of a night and the next morning have a lot of phlegm which is stuck is my throat which I start to cough up?

Ongoing problem?: I suspect this has been going on for awhile? Otherwise, likely a cold. Runny nose with post-nasal drip (rhinitis) can have several allergic and non-allergic (mucosal atrophy, medication effect, irritant exposure, infection, structural nasal/sinus prombelm, etc) causes. The key to effective treatment is to identify the cause. Saline irrigation is noninvasive and sometimes very effective first step ...Read more
