Fracture (Definition)

A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

I have a broken bone in my neck, I am wearing a neck brace, is it ok if I lay on my back or is it better if I sleep sitting up the bone is broken on the second verterbrae, is it better if I sleep sitting up or laying down

Neck fracture: I assume you are not having neurologic symptoms and your physician is not concerned about potential neurologic deficits. If the fracture is not of this concern and possibly involves more peripheral structures like a spinous or transverse process, it primarily will depend upon what is most comfortable for you. Either seated or supine would be reasonable.

Broken humerus bone. I'm now in a Sarmiento brace. I feel a warm feeling where the fracture occurred. Is it something serious?

Warmth: Warmth is probably good sign. Fractures heal by making a clot first and this means increased blood flow. YOU should not get fever though. Let ortho know that.

Your: Your question is a good one but absolutely impossible to answer in any meaningful way without knowing many more details of the injury, having a good exam, and seeing the x-ray at the very least. Assuming that this is a so-called articular fracture, that is in to the joint, one would have to know what the joint surfaces look like, how displaced the bone fragments are etc... While at 2 and 1/2 months you are already beyond the normal healing period for this type of fracture, you should still not delay in seeking a medical evaluation. At the very least you will be started on appropriate therapy. Even without insurance, see if there is not a local hospital clinic that can help out. Best of luck.

I met with an accident & broke my collar bone (clavicle right) my doctor advised me to wear a figure of 8 brace for 6weeks and the fracture will heal.

I met with an accident & broke my collar bone (clavicle right) my doctor advised me to wear a figure of 8 brace for 6weeks and the fracture will heal.

Most do heal well-: -with that treatment, but I always took into account the occupation & needs of the patient & many times would open & fix them so they were more able 2function. I used an intra medullary pin so there was no brace. But activities were limited 2 work or school. Had 2B careful as the pin could break. It was always able 2 B removed, but I had 2 pick the patients carefully.

Pain, swelling.: If something hurts, is swollen, is bruised, or doesn't seem to be aligned the way you remember it, see your doctor for an x-ray. X-rays are the best way to tell definitively if a bone is broken.
